Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 41

Al-An'am [6]: 41 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

بَلْ اِيَّاهُ تَدْعُوْنَ فَيَكْشِفُ مَا تَدْعُوْنَ اِلَيْهِ اِنْ شَاۤءَ وَتَنْسَوْنَ مَا تُشْرِكُوْنَ ࣖ (الأنعام : ٦)

Transliteration:

Bal iyyaahu tad'oona fa yakshifu maa tad'oona ilaihi in shaaa'a wa tansawna maa tushrikoon (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:41)

English / Sahih Translation:

No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him]. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 41)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Rather, Him alone you will call and He, if He wills, shall remove what you call Him for, and you will forget those you associate with Him.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

No! He is the only One you would call. And if He willed, He could remove the affliction that made you invoke Him. Only then will you forget whatever you associate with Him ˹in worship˺.”

No, it is Him alone would you call upon. If He willed, He could remove whatever harm made you call upon Him, and you would forget whatever partners you associate with Him.”

Aye! unto Him alone ye would cry, and He would remove that where for ye cried unto Him, if He will, and ye would forget that which ye associate.

"Nay,- On Him would ye call, and if it be His will, He would remove (the distress) which occasioned your call upon Him, and ye would forget (the false gods) which ye join with Him!"

Abul Ala Maududi

Lo, it is to Him alone that you cry and then, if He so wills, He removes the distress for which you had cried to Him. Then you forget the partners you had set up with Allah.

No: You will call to Him alone; and He will, if He please, remove (the distress) for which you had called Him; and forget those you associate as compeers (with Him)

“In fact you will only call upon Him, and if He wills, He may remove that because of which you prayed to Him, and you will forget the partners (you ascribe to Him).”

No, Him you will supplicate, and He will remove that for which you supplicated Him, if He wishes, and you will forget what you ascribe [to Him] as [His] partners.’

(No indeed!) Rather, it is Him alone that you invoke – then He may, if He wills, remove that which caused you to invoke Him – and you forget (then) whatever partners you have been associating with Him.

`Nay, but you will call upon Him alone, then He will, if He please, relieve (you) of that distress for (the removal of) which you called upon Him; and you will abandon those (false gods) which you associate with Him.´

English Literal

But (only) Him you call, so He removes/uncovers what you call to (for) it, if He wants/wills, and you forget what you share/make partners (with God).

“In fact you will only call upon Him, and if He wills, He may remove that because of which you prayed to Him, and you will forget the partners (you ascribe to Him).”

Indeed, it is on Him that you would call, and He could remove that [affliction] which made you call on Him, if He will, and then you would forget [the false deities] which you associate with Him!"

In fact, it is Him you will call upon; and if He wills, he will remove what you called Him for, and you will forget what you idolized.

Tafsir jalalayn

Nay; upon Him, and upon none other, you will call, in [times of] tribulation, and He will remove that which you call upon Him, to remove from you, such things as suffering, if He wills, to remove it, and you will forget, you will neglect, what you associate with Him, of idols and will not call them.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Nay! To Him alone you call, and, if He willed, He would remove that (distress) for which you call upon Him, and you forget at that time whatever partners you joined with Him (in worship)!

for in times of necessity, you only call on Allah and forget your idols and false deities.

In another Ayah, Allah said;

وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الْضُّرُّ فِى الْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدْعُونَ إِلَا إِيَّاهُ


And when harm touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon besides Him vanish from you except Him (Allah). (17;67)

Allah said
