Al-An'am [6]: 32 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَآ اِلَّا لَعِبٌ وَّلَهْوٌ ۗوَلَلدَّارُ الْاٰخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِيْنَ يَتَّقُوْنَۗ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُوْنَ (الأنعام : ٦)

wamā
وَمَا
And not
l-ḥayatu
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
(is) the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَآ
(of) the world
illā
إِلَّا
except
laʿibun
لَعِبٌ
a play
walahwun
وَلَهْوٌۖ
and amusement
walalddāru
وَلَلدَّارُ
but the home
l-ākhiratu
ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ
(of) the Hereafter
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
(is) best
lilladhīna
لِّلَّذِينَ
for those who
yattaqūna
يَتَّقُونَۗ
(are) God conscious
afalā
أَفَلَا
Then not?
taʿqilūna
تَعْقِلُونَ
(will) you reason?

Transliteration:

Wa mal hayaatud dunyaaa illaa la'ibunw wa lahwunw wa lad Daarul Aakhiratu kahyrul lillazeena yattaqoon; afalaa ta'qiloon (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:32)

English / Sahih Translation:

And the worldly life is not but amusement and diversion; but the home of the Hereafter is best for those who fear Allah, so will you not reason? (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 32)

The worldly life is nothing but a game and fun, and the last abode is surely much better for those who fear Allah. Would you still not understand?

And the life the present/worldly life is not except playing/amusement/enjoyment and play things , and (the) end`s (other life`s) house/home (E) (is) better to those who fear and obey, so do you not reason/understand?

Tafsir jalalayn

The life of this world, that is, preoccupation with it, is nothing but a game and a diversion, while obedience and what is conducive to it are of the things of the Hereafter; surely the abode of the Hereafter (wa-la'l-dru is also read wa-la-dru'l-khirati), namely, Paradise, is better for those who fear idolatry. What, do they not understand? this, and so believe? (read a-fa-l ya`qilna, `do they not understand', or a-fa-l ta`qilna, `do you not understand?').

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ

And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement.

means, most of it is play and amusement,

وَلَلدَّارُ الاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ أَفَلَ تَعْقِلُونَ



But far better is the abode of the Hereafter for those who have Taqwa. Will you not then understand!
