Do you [truly] testify that with Allah there are other deities?" Say, "I will not testify [with you]." Say, "Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]." (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 19)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Say, “Whose testimony is the greatest?” Say, “Allah is the witness between me and you, and this Qur’ān has been revealed to me so that I should thereby warn you, and whomsoever it may reach. Do you really bear witness that there are other gods along with Allah?” Say, “I bear no such witness.” Say, “In fact, He is one God. I disown what you associate (with Him).”

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

Ask ˹them, O  Prophet˺, “Who is the best witness?” Say, “Allah is! He is a Witness between me and you. And this Quran has been revealed to me so that, with it, I may warn you and whoever it reaches. Do you ˹pagans˺ testify that there are other gods besides Allah?” ˹Then˺ say, “I will never testify ˹to this˺!” ˹And˺ say, “There is only One God. And I totally reject whatever ˹idols˺ you associate with Him.”

Would ye indeed testify that there is anot her god together with Allah? Say thou: I testify not. Say thou: verily He is the One God, and I am quit of that which ye associate.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Say; "What thing is most weighty in evidence?" Say; "Allah is witness between me and you; This Qur'an hath been revealed to me by inspiration, that I may warn you and all whom it reaches. Can ye possibly bear witness that besides Allah there is another Allah?" Say; "Nay! I cannot bear witness!" Say; "But in truth He is the one Allah, and I truly am innocent of (your blasphemy of) joining others with Him."

Abul Ala Maududi

Ask them: 'Whose testimony is the greatest?' Say: 'Allah is the witness between me and you; and this Qur'an was revealed to me that I should warn you thereby and also whomsoever it may reach.' Do you indeed testify that there are other gods with Allah? Say: 'I shall never testify such a thing.' Say: "God (who) is witness between you and me that this Qur'an has been revealed to me that I may warn you on its strength, and those whom it reaches. Do you really bear witness there are other gods with God?" Tell them: "I bear no such Witness." Say: "Verily He is the only God, and I am clear of what you associate (with Him)."

Ahmed Raza Khan

Proclaim (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), “Whose testimony is the greatest?” Say, “Allah is the Witness between me and you; and this Qur’an has been sent down upon me, so I may warn you with it and whomever it may reach; so do you bear witness that there are other Gods along with Allah?” Say, “I do not bear witness to it”; Say, “He is the only One God and I do not have any relation with whatever you ascribe as partners (to Him).”

Ali Quli Qarai

(O you who associate partners with God:) Do you truly testify that there are deities besides God? Say (to them): "I give no such testimony." Say: "He is only One God, and surely I am absolutely free from your association of partners with Him and from whatever you associate with Him as partners."

Muhammad Sarwar

(Muhammad), ask them, "What is the greatest testimony? God testifies of my truthfulness to you. He has revealed this Quran to me to warn you and the coming generations (against disobeying God). Wahiduddin Khan

Ask them, "What carries the most weight as a witness?" Tell them it is God. He is a witness between you and me. Say, "This Quran has been revealed to me so that through it I may warn you and whoever it reaches. Do you really bear witness that there are other deities beside God?" Say, "I do not bear witness to this." Say, "He is only one God, and I disown whatever you associate with Him."

Tafsir jalalayn

When they said to the Prophet (s), `Bring us someone to testify to the truth of your prophethood, for the People of the Scripture have denied you', the following was revealed; Say, to them; `What thing is greatest in testimony?' (shahdatan; this is for specification, and is derived from the [implied] subject of the sentence). Say; `God -- even if they do not say this, there is no other response -- He, is Witness between me and you, to my truthfulness; and this Qur'n has been revealed to me that I may warn you, [that I may] make you fear, O people of Mecca, thereby, and whomever it may reach (wa-man balagha; this is a supplement to the [suffixed] pronoun [`you'] of undhira-kum, `I may warn you'), that is to say, whomever among men and jinn the Qur'n may reach. Do you indeed bear witness that there are other gods with God?' (this interrogative is meant as a disavowal). Say, to them; `I do not bear witness', to this. Say; `He is only One God, and I am innocent of what you associate', with Him of idols.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Say;"What thing is the most great in witness!"

or what is the greatest witness,

Say;"Allah (the Most Great!) is Witness between you and I."

for He knows what I brought you and what you will answer me with,

this Qur'an has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach.

Therefore, this Qur'an is a warner for all those who hear of it.

In another Ayah, Allah said,

But those of the sects that reject it, the Fire will be their promised meeting place. (11;17)

Ar-Rabi bin Anas said,

"Those who follow the Messenger of Allah ought to call to what the Messenger of Allah called to and warn against what he warned against."

Allah said next,

"Can you verily bear witness..." (O idolators),

"that besides Allah there are other gods!" Say, "I bear no (such) witness!"

Similarly, in another Ayah, Allah said;

Then if they testify, testify not you with them. (6;150)

Allah said next,

Say;"Only He is God, alone, and truly I am innocent of what you join in worship with Him."
People of the Book Recognize the Prophet Just as They Recognize Their Own Children
