Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 17

Al-An'am [6]: 17 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاِنْ يَّمْسَسْكَ اللّٰهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهٗٓ اِلَّا هُوَ ۗوَاِنْ يَّمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ (الأنعام : ٦)

wa-in

All-Powerful

Transliteration:

Wa iny-yamsaskal laahu bidurrin falaaa kaashifa lahoo illaa Huwa wa iny-yamsaska bikhairin fa Huwa 'alaa kulli shai'in Qadeer (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:17)

English / Sahih Translation:

And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good – then He is over all things competent. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 17)

If Allah causes you harm, there is no one to remove it except He Himself; and if He causes you good, then He is powerful over everything.

And if God touches you with harm, so (there is)no remover/uncoverer for it except He, and if He touches you with goodness , so He is on every thing capable.

And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is able to do all things.

If God should let any harm touch you, no one could remove it except He; while if He should let some good touch you, know that He has the power to do all that He wills.

If God touches you with adversity, none can remove it except He. And if He touches you with good—He is Capable of everything.

Tafsir jalalayn

And if God touches you with an affliction, a trial, such as an illness or impoverishment, then none can remove it, [none can] lift it, except Him; and if He touches you with good, such as health and affluence, then He has power over all things, including His touching you with this, and none other than Him has the power to remove it from you.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah is the Irresistible, Able to Bring Benefit and Protect from Harm

Allah states that He Alone brings benefit or harm, and that He does what He wills with His creatures, none can resist His judgment or prevent what He decrees,

وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَ كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلاَّ هُوَ

وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدُيرٌ



And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is able to do all things.

Similarly, Allah said,

مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَ مُمْسِكَ لَهَا وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَ مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ

Whatever mercy, Allah may grant to mankind, none can withhold it, and whatever He may withhold, none can grant it thereafter. (35;2)

It is recorded in the Sahih that the Messenger of Allah used to supplicate,

اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَد

O Allah, there is none Who can avert what You grant or give what You deprive, and no fortune ever helps the fortunate against You.

This is why Allah said
