Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 107

Al-An'am [6]: 107 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَوْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ مَآ اَشْرَكُوْاۗ وَمَا جَعَلْنٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيْظًاۚ وَمَآ اَنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِوَكِيْلٍ (الأنعام : ٦)

And if

حَفِيظًاۖ
a guardian
wamā
وَمَآ

عَلَيْهِم
(are) over them
biwakīlin
بِوَكِيلٍ
a manager

Transliteration:

Wa law shaaa'al laahu maaa ashrakoo; wa maa ja'alnaaka 'alaihim hafeezanw wa maaa anta 'alaihim biwakeel (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:107)

English / Sahih Translation:

But if Allah had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 107)

If Allah willed, they would not have associated. We have not appointed you as a guard over them, nor are you a taskmaster for them.

Had Allah willed, they would not have been polytheists. We have not appointed you as their keeper, nor are you their maintainer.

Had Allah so willed they would not have associated others with Him in His divinity; and We have not appointed you a watcher over them, and you are not their guardian.

Had He willed they would not have been idolaters. We have not appointed you their guardian, nor are you their pleader.

And if Allah willed, they would not ascribe (any partner to Him); We have not made you as a guardian over them; and you are not responsible for them.

Had Allah wished they would not have ascribed partners [to Him]. We have not made you a caretaker for them, nor is it your duty to watch over them.

Yet if God had so willed (and not enabled their free choice), they would not have associated partners with Him, (so do not torment yourself to death with grief because they do not believe). And We have not made you a keeper over them, and you are not charged with care and control of them.

Amatul Rahman Omar

If Allâh had (enforced) His will, they would not have associated partners with Him. And We have not made you a guardian over them, nor are you a disposer of their affairs.

English Literal

And if God wanted/willed, they would not (have) shared/made partners (with God), and We did not make you a protector/observer on them, and you are not on them with a guardian .

And if Allah willed, they would not ascribe (any partner to Him); We have not made you as a guardian over them; and you are not responsible for them.

But had Allah pleased, they would not have associated aught with Him. We have not made you a keeper over them, nor are you for them a warder (or responsible for them).

Had Allah willed, they would not have taken others besides Him in worship. And We have not made you a watcher over them nor are you set over them to dispose of their affairs.

Follow that which is revealed to thee from thy Lord -- there is no god but He; and turn away from he polytheists.

If God had willed, they would not have associated anything with Him. We did not appoint you over them as their keeper, nor are you their guardian.

Had God willed, they would not have practiced idolatry. We did not appoint you as a guardian over them, and you are not a manager over them.

Tafsir jalalayn

Had God willed, they would not have been idolaters; and We have not set you as a keeper over them, a watcher, so that you might then requite them for their deeds; nor are you a guardian over them, so that you might [be able to] coerce them to faith -- this was [revealed] before the command to fight [them].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ مَا أَشْرَكُواْ

Had Allah willed, they would not have taken others besides Him in worship.

Allah's is the perfect will and wisdom in all decrees and decisions, and He is never questioned about what He does, while they all will be questioned.

Allah's statement,

وَمَا جَعَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا

And We have not made you Hafiz over them.

means, a watcher who observes their statements and deeds,

وَمَا أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ



Nor are you set over them to dispose of their affairs.

or to control their provision. Rather, your only job is to convey, just as Allah said,

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَأ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُسَيْطِرٍ

So remind them, you are only one who reminds. You are not a dictator over them. (88;21-22)

and,

فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَـغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ

Your duty is only to convey and on Us is the reckoning. (13;40
