Surah Al-An'am - Page: 15

(The Cattle)

141

۞ وَهُوَ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْشَاَ جَنّٰتٍ مَّعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّغَيْرَ مَعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّالنَّخْلَ وَالزَّرْعَ مُخْتَلِفًا اُكُلُهٗ وَالزَّيْتُوْنَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَابِهًا وَّغَيْرَ مُتَشَابِهٍۗ كُلُوْا مِنْ ثَمَرِهٖٓ اِذَآ اَثْمَرَ وَاٰتُوْا حَقَّهٗ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهٖۖ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوْا ۗاِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِيْنَۙ ١٤١

wahuwa
وَهُوَ
And He
alladhī
ٱلَّذِىٓ
(is) the One Who
ansha-a
أَنشَأَ
produced
jannātin
جَنَّٰتٍ
gardens
maʿrūshātin
مَّعْرُوشَٰتٍ
trellised
waghayra
وَغَيْرَ
and other than
maʿrūshātin
مَعْرُوشَٰتٍ
trellised
wal-nakhla
وَٱلنَّخْلَ
and the date-palm
wal-zarʿa
وَٱلزَّرْعَ
and the crops
mukh'talifan
مُخْتَلِفًا
diverse
ukuluhu
أُكُلُهُۥ
(are) its taste
wal-zaytūna
وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ
and the olives
wal-rumāna
وَٱلرُّمَّانَ
and the pomegranates
mutashābihan
مُتَشَٰبِهًا
similar
waghayra
وَغَيْرَ
and other than
mutashābihin
مُتَشَٰبِهٍۚ
similar
kulū
كُلُوا۟
Eat
min
مِن
of
thamarihi
ثَمَرِهِۦٓ
its fruit
idhā
إِذَآ
when
athmara
أَثْمَرَ
it bears fruit
waātū
وَءَاتُوا۟
and give
ḥaqqahu
حَقَّهُۥ
its due
yawma
يَوْمَ
(on the) day
ḥaṣādihi
حَصَادِهِۦۖ
(of) its harvest
walā
وَلَا
And (do) not
tus'rifū
تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ۚ
(be) extravagant
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
لَا
(does) not
yuḥibbu
يُحِبُّ
love
l-mus'rifīna
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
the ones who are extravagant
And He it is who causes gardens to grow, [both] trellised and untrellised, and palm trees and crops of different [kinds of] food and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat of [each of] its fruit when it yields and give its due [Zakah] on the day of its harvest. And be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess. (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 141)
Tafsir
142

وَمِنَ الْاَنْعَامِ حَمُوْلَةً وَّفَرْشًا ۗ كُلُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوْا خُطُوٰتِ الشَّيْطٰنِۗ اِنَّهٗ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌۙ ١٤٢

وَمِنَ
And of
l-anʿāmi
ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ
the cattle
ḥamūlatan
حَمُولَةً
(are some for) burden
wafarshan
وَفَرْشًاۚ
and (some for) meat
kulū
كُلُوا۟
Eat
mimmā
مِمَّا
of what
razaqakumu
رَزَقَكُمُ
(has been) provided (to) you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
walā
وَلَا
and (do) not
tattabiʿū
تَتَّبِعُوا۟
follow
khuṭuwāti
خُطُوَٰتِ
(the) footsteps
l-shayṭāni
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِۚ
(of) Shaitaan
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
lakum
لَكُمْ
(is) to you
ʿaduwwun
عَدُوٌّ
an enemy
mubīnun
مُّبِينٌ
open
And of the grazing livestock are carriers [of burdens] and those [too] small. Eat of what Allah has provided for you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 142)
Tafsir
143

ثَمٰنِيَةَ اَزْوَاجٍۚ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ الْمَعْزِ اثْنَيْنِۗ قُلْ ءٰۤالذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ اَمِ الْاُنْثَيَيْنِ اَمَّا اشْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ اَرْحَامُ الْاُنْثَيَيْنِۗ نَبِّئُوْنِيْ بِعِلْمٍ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ ١٤٣

Eight
azwājin
أَزْوَٰجٍۖ
pairs
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-ḍani
ٱلضَّأْنِ
the sheep
ith'nayni
ٱثْنَيْنِ
two
wamina
وَمِنَ
and of
l-maʿzi
ٱلْمَعْزِ
the goats
ith'nayni
ٱثْنَيْنِۗ
two
qul
قُلْ
Say
āldhakarayni
ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ
"(Are) the two males
ḥarrama
حَرَّمَ
He has forbidden
ami
أَمِ
or
l-unthayayni
ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ
the two females
ammā
أَمَّا
or what
ish'tamalat
ٱشْتَمَلَتْ
contains
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
[in it]
arḥāmu
أَرْحَامُ
(the) wombs
l-unthayayni
ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِۖ
(of) the two females?
nabbiūnī
نَبِّـُٔونِى
Inform me
biʿil'min
بِعِلْمٍ
with knowledge
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you are
ṣādiqīna
صَٰدِقِينَ
truthful"
[They are] eight mates – of the sheep, two and of the goats, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge, if you should be truthful." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 143)
Tafsir
144

وَمِنَ الْاِبِلِ اثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ الْبَقَرِ اثْنَيْنِۗ قُلْ ءٰۤالذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ اَمِ الْاُنْثَيَيْنِ اَمَّا اشْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ اَرْحَامُ الْاُنْثَيَيْنِۗ اَمْ كُنْتُمْ شُهَدَاۤءَ اِذْ وَصّٰىكُمُ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَاۚ فَمَنْ اَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرٰى عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِبًا لِّيُضِلَّ النَّاسَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِى الْقَوْمَ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ ࣖ ١٤٤

And of

ٱلْإِبِلِ
the camels
ith'nayni
ٱثْنَيْنِ
two
wamina
وَمِنَ
and of
l-baqari
ٱلْبَقَرِ
the cows
ith'nayni
ٱثْنَيْنِۗ
two
qul
قُلْ
Say
āldhakarayni
ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ
"(Is it) the two males
ḥarrama
حَرَّمَ
He (has) forbidden
ami
أَمِ
or
l-unthayayni
ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ
the two females
ammā
أَمَّا
or what
ish'tamalat
ٱشْتَمَلَتْ
contains
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
[in it]
arḥāmu
أَرْحَامُ
(the) wombs
l-unthayayni
ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِۖ
(of) the two females?
am
أَمْ
Or
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
were you
shuhadāa
شُهَدَآءَ
witnesses
idh
إِذْ
when
waṣṣākumu
وَصَّىٰكُمُ
enjoined you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
bihādhā
بِهَٰذَاۚ
with this?
faman
فَمَنْ
Then who
aẓlamu
أَظْلَمُ
(is) more unjust
mimmani
مِمَّنِ
than (one) who
if'tarā
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
invents
ʿalā
عَلَى
against
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
kadhiban
كَذِبًا
a lie
liyuḍilla
لِّيُضِلَّ
to mislead
l-nāsa
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
bighayri
بِغَيْرِ
without
ʿil'min
عِلْمٍۗ
knowledge?
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
yahdī
يَهْدِى
guide
l-qawma
ٱلْقَوْمَ
the people"
l-ẓālimīna
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoing"
And of the camels, two and of the cattle, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Or were you witnesses when Allah charged you with this? Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 144)
Tafsir
145

قُلْ لَّآ اَجِدُ فِيْ مَآ اُوْحِيَ اِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلٰى طَاعِمٍ يَّطْعَمُهٗٓ اِلَّآ اَنْ يَّكُوْنَ مَيْتَةً اَوْ دَمًا مَّسْفُوْحًا اَوْ لَحْمَ خِنْزِيْرٍ فَاِنَّهٗ رِجْسٌ اَوْ فِسْقًا اُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللّٰهِ بِهٖۚ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَّلَا عَادٍ فَاِنَّ رَبَّكَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ١٤٥

Say
لَّآ
"Not
ajidu
أَجِدُ
"(do) I find
فِى
in
مَآ
what
ūḥiya
أُوحِىَ
has been revealed
ilayya
إِلَىَّ
to me
muḥarraman
مُحَرَّمًا
(anything) forbidden
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
to
ṭāʿimin
طَاعِمٍ
an eater
yaṭʿamuhu
يَطْعَمُهُۥٓ
who eats it
illā
إِلَّآ
except
an
أَن
that
yakūna
يَكُونَ
it be
maytatan
مَيْتَةً
dead
aw
أَوْ
or
daman
دَمًا
blood
masfūḥan
مَّسْفُوحًا
poured forth
aw
أَوْ
or
laḥma
لَحْمَ
(the) flesh
khinzīrin
خِنزِيرٍ
(of) swine
fa-innahu
فَإِنَّهُۥ
for indeed, it
rij'sun
رِجْسٌ
(is) filth
aw
أَوْ
or
fis'qan
فِسْقًا
(it be) disobedience
uhilla
أُهِلَّ
[is] dedicated
lighayri
لِغَيْرِ
to other than
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
bihi
بِهِۦۚ
[on it]
famani
فَمَنِ
But whoever
uḍ'ṭurra
ٱضْطُرَّ
(is) compelled
ghayra
غَيْرَ
not
bāghin
بَاغٍ
desiring
walā
وَلَا
and not
ʿādin
عَادٍ
transgressing
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
rabbaka
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful"
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine – for indeed, it is impure – or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], then indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 145)
Tafsir
146

وَعَلَى الَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا حَرَّمْنَا كُلَّ ذِيْ ظُفُرٍۚ وَمِنَ الْبَقَرِ وَالْغَنَمِ حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ شُحُوْمَهُمَآ اِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتْ ظُهُوْرُهُمَآ اَوِ الْحَوَايَآ اَوْ مَا اخْتَلَطَ بِعَظْمٍۗ ذٰلِكَ جَزَيْنٰهُمْ بِبَغْيِهِمْۚ وَاِنَّا لَصٰدِقُوْنَ ١٤٦

وَعَلَى
And to
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
hādū
هَادُوا۟
are Jews
ḥarramnā
حَرَّمْنَا
We forbade
kulla
كُلَّ
every
dhī
ذِى
(animal) with
ẓufurin
ظُفُرٍۖ
claws
wamina
وَمِنَ
and of
l-baqari
ٱلْبَقَرِ
the cows
wal-ghanami
وَٱلْغَنَمِ
and the sheep
ḥarramnā
حَرَّمْنَا
We forbade
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
shuḥūmahumā
شُحُومَهُمَآ
their fat
illā
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
ḥamalat
حَمَلَتْ
carried
ẓuhūruhumā
ظُهُورُهُمَآ
their backs
awi
أَوِ
or
l-ḥawāyā
ٱلْحَوَايَآ
the entrails
aw
أَوْ
or
مَا
what
ikh'talaṭa
ٱخْتَلَطَ
(is) joined
biʿaẓmin
بِعَظْمٍۚ
with the bone
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
jazaynāhum
جَزَيْنَٰهُم
(is) their recompense
bibaghyihim
بِبَغْيِهِمْۖ
for their rebellion
wa-innā
وَإِنَّا
And indeed, We
laṣādiqūna
لَصَٰدِقُونَ
[surely] are truthful
And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their transgression. And indeed, We are truthful. (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 146)
Tafsir
147

فَاِنْ كَذَّبُوْكَ فَقُلْ رَّبُّكُمْ ذُوْ رَحْمَةٍ وَّاسِعَةٍۚ وَلَا يُرَدُّ بَأْسُهٗ عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْمُجْرِمِيْنَ ١٤٧

fa-in
فَإِن
But if
kadhabūka
كَذَّبُوكَ
they deny you
faqul
فَقُل
then say
rabbukum
رَّبُّكُمْ
"Your Lord
dhū
ذُو
(is the) Possessor
raḥmatin
رَحْمَةٍ
(of) Mercy
wāsiʿatin
وَٰسِعَةٍ
Vast
walā
وَلَا
but not
yuraddu
يُرَدُّ
will be turned back
basuhu
بَأْسُهُۥ
His wrath
ʿani
عَنِ
from
l-qawmi
ٱلْقَوْمِ
the people
l-muj'rimīna
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
(who are) criminals"
So if they deny you, [O Muhammad], say, "Your Lord is the possessor of vast mercy; but His punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 147)
Tafsir
148

سَيَقُوْلُ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا لَوْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ مَآ اَشْرَكْنَا وَلَآ اٰبَاۤؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِنْ شَيْءٍۗ كَذٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ حَتّٰى ذَاقُوْا بَأْسَنَاۗ قُلْ هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِّنْ عِلْمٍ فَتُخْرِجُوْهُ لَنَاۗ اِنْ تَتَّبِعُوْنَ اِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَاِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا تَخْرُصُوْنَ ١٤٨

سَيَقُولُ
Will say
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ashrakū
أَشْرَكُوا۟
associate partners (with Allah)
law
لَوْ
"If
shāa
شَآءَ
Had willed
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
مَآ
not
ashraknā
أَشْرَكْنَا
we (would) have associated partners (with Allah)
walā
وَلَآ
and not
ābāunā
ءَابَآؤُنَا
our forefathers
walā
وَلَا
and not
ḥarramnā
حَرَّمْنَا
we (would) have forbidden
min
مِن
[of]
shayin
شَىْءٍۚ
anything"
kadhālika
كَذَٰلِكَ
Likewise
kadhaba
كَذَّبَ
denied
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
min
مِن
(were from)
qablihim
قَبْلِهِمْ
before them
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
dhāqū
ذَاقُوا۟
they tasted
basanā
بَأْسَنَاۗ
Our wrath
qul
قُلْ
Say
hal
هَلْ
"Is
ʿindakum
عِندَكُم
with you
min
مِّنْ
[of]
ʿil'min
عِلْمٍ
any knowledge
fatukh'rijūhu
فَتُخْرِجُوهُ
then produce it
lanā
لَنَآۖ
for us?
in
إِن
Not
tattabiʿūna
تَتَّبِعُونَ
you follow
illā
إِلَّا
except
l-ẓana
ٱلظَّنَّ
the assumption
wa-in
وَإِنْ
and not
antum
أَنتُمْ
you (do)
illā
إِلَّا
but
takhruṣūna
تَخْرُصُونَ
guess"
Those who associated [others] with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have prohibited anything." Likewise did those before deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You follow not except assumption, and you are not but misjudging." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 148)
Tafsir
149

قُلْ فَلِلّٰهِ الْحُجَّةُ الْبَالِغَةُۚ فَلَوْ شَاۤءَ لَهَدٰىكُمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ ١٤٩

qul
قُلْ
Say
falillahi
فَلِلَّهِ
"With Allah
l-ḥujatu
ٱلْحُجَّةُ
(is) the argument -
l-bālighatu
ٱلْبَٰلِغَةُۖ
the conclusive
falaw
فَلَوْ
And if
shāa
شَآءَ
He (had) willed
lahadākum
لَهَدَىٰكُمْ
surely He (would) have guided you
ajmaʿīna
أَجْمَعِينَ
all"
Say, "With Allah is the far-reaching [i.e., conclusive] argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all." (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 149)
Tafsir
150

قُلْ هَلُمَّ شُهَدَاۤءَكُمُ الَّذِيْنَ يَشْهَدُوْنَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ حَرَّمَ هٰذَاۚ فَاِنْ شَهِدُوْا فَلَا تَشْهَدْ مَعَهُمْۚ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ اَهْوَاۤءَ الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَالَّذِيْنَ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ وَهُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُوْنَ ࣖ ١٥٠

قُلْ
Say
halumma
هَلُمَّ
"Bring forward
shuhadāakumu
شُهَدَآءَكُمُ
your witnesses
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
yashhadūna
يَشْهَدُونَ
testify
anna
أَنَّ
that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ḥarrama
حَرَّمَ
prohibited
hādhā
هَٰذَاۖ
this"
fa-in
فَإِن
Then if
shahidū
شَهِدُوا۟
they testify
falā
فَلَا
then (do) not
tashhad
تَشْهَدْ
testify
maʿahum
مَعَهُمْۚ
with them
walā
وَلَا
And (do) not
tattabiʿ
تَتَّبِعْ
follow
ahwāa
أَهْوَآءَ
(the) desires
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
kadhabū
كَذَّبُوا۟
denied
biāyātinā
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
Our Signs
wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those who
لَا
(do) not
yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
believe
bil-ākhirati
بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
in the Hereafter
wahum
وَهُم
while they
birabbihim
بِرَبِّهِمْ
with their Lord
yaʿdilūna
يَعْدِلُونَ
set up equals
Say, [O Muhammad], "Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that Allah has prohibited this." And if they testify, do not testify with them. And do not follow the desires of those who deny Our verses and those who do not believe in the Hereafter, while they equate [others] with their Lord. (QS. [6] Al-An'am: 150)
