Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hashr Verse 3
Al-Hashr [59]: 3 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَوْلَآ اَنْ كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَلَاۤءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِى الدُّنْيَاۗ وَلَهُمْ فِى الْاٰخِرَةِ عَذَابُ النَّارِ (الحشر : ٥٩)
- walawlā
- وَلَوْلَآ
- And if not
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- kataba
- كَتَبَ
- (had) decreed
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- ʿalayhimu
- عَلَيْهِمُ
- for them
- l-jalāa
- ٱلْجَلَآءَ
- the exile
- laʿadhabahum
- لَعَذَّبَهُمْ
- certainly He (would) have punished them
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-dun'yā
- ٱلدُّنْيَاۖ
- the world
- walahum
- وَلَهُمْ
- and for them
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-ākhirati
- ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
- the Hereafter
- ʿadhābu
- عَذَابُ
- (is) a punishment
- l-nāri
- ٱلنَّارِ
- (of) the Fire
Transliteration:
Wa law laaa an katabal laahu 'alaihimul jalaaa'a la'azzabahum fid dunyaa wa lahum fil Aakhirati 'azaabun Naar(QS. al-Ḥašr:3)
English / Sahih Translation:
And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire. (QS. Al-Hashr, ayah 3)

If Allah had not destined exile for them, He would have punished them in the world. And for them in the Hereafter is the torment of the Fire.

Where it not for that (E) God wrote/decreed the departure/moving out on them, He would have tortured them in the present world, and for them in the end (other life is) the fire`s torture.

So take a lesson, O you who have eyes!

Tafsir jalalayn
And had God not prescribed, [had He not] decreed, banishment for them, departure from their homeland, He would have chastised them in this world, by having them killed or taken captive, as He did with the Jews of [Ban] Qurayza, and in the Hereafter there is for them the chastisement of the Fire.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَلَوْلَا أَن كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَلَء لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا
And had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world;
meaning, if it was not for the fact that Allah had already decreed that they would evacuate Al-Madinah, leaving behind their homes and wealth, He would have sent another type of punishment upon them, such as being killed and captured.
This was said by Az-Zuhri. `Urwah, As-Suddi.
Ibn Zayd said that Allah decreed that the Jews would be punished in the life of this world and face the torment of the fire of Hell He prepared for them in the Hereafter.
Allah said,
وَلَهُمْ فِي الاْخِرَةِ عَذَابُ النَّارِ
and in the Hereafter theirs shall be the torment of the Fire.
meaning, it is a matter ordained that they will surely face
