Al-Qur'an Surah An-Najm Verse 48

An-Najm [53]: 48 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاَنَّهٗ هُوَ اَغْنٰى وَاَقْنٰىۙ (النجم : ٥٣)

wa-annahu
وَأَنَّهُۥ
And that He
huwa
هُوَ
[He]
aghnā
أَغْنَىٰ
enriches
wa-aqnā
وَأَقْنَىٰ
and suffices

Transliteration:

Wa annahoo huwa aghnaa wa aqnaa (QS. an-Najm:48)

English / Sahih Translation:

And that it is He who enriches and suffices (QS. An-Najm, ayah 48)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

and that He is the One who gives wealth and preserves (it),

And He is the One Who enriches and impoverishes.

And He is the One Who enriches and bestows wealth,

Tafsir jalalayn

and that it is He Who enriches, people by [granting them] sufficient wealth, and grants possessions, [He Who] gives that wealth that is enjoyed as property,

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And that it is He Who Aghna (gives much) and Aqna (a little).

It is Allah Who gives wealth to His servants and this wealth remains with them. This means they are able to use it to their benefit, is this out of the completeness of His favor.

Most of the statements of the scholars of Tafsir revolve around this meaning, such as those from Abu Salih, Ibn Jarir and others.

Mujahid said that,

أَغْنَى
(Aghna) meaning;He gives wealth.

وَأَقْنَى
(Aqna) meaning;He gives servants.

Similar was said by Qatadah.

Ibn Abbas and Mujahid said;

أَغْنَى
(Aghna) means;He granted;

while,

وَأَقْنَى
(Aqna) means;He gave contentment.

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَى
