Al-Qur'an Surah An-Najm Verse 38

An-Najm [53]: 38 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِّزْرَ اُخْرٰىۙ (النجم : ٥٣)

allā

a bearer of burdens

وِزْرَ
(the) burden

أُخْرَىٰ
(of) another

Transliteration:

Allaa taziru waaziratunw wizra ukhraa (QS. an-Najm:38)

English / Sahih Translation:

That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another (QS. An-Najm, ayah 38)

(It was) that no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of the other,

Tafsir jalalayn

that no burdened soul shall bear the burden of another (an, `that', has been softened in place of the hardened form), in other words, no soul shall bear [responsibility for] the sins of another;

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

That no burdened person shall bear the burden of another.

Meaning, every soul shall carry its own injustices, whether disbelief or sin, and none else shall carry its burden of sin, as Allah states

وَإِن تَدْعُ مُثْقَلَةٌ إِلَى حِمْلِهَا لَا يُحْمَلْ مِنْهُ شَىْءٌ وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَى

And if one heavily laden calls another to (bear) his load, nothing of it will be lifted even though he be near of kin. (35;18)

Allah said,

وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْأِنسَانِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى
