Their knowledge does not go beyond that. Your Lord knows best who strays from His path and who follows guidance.

Ali Ünal

Such is their sum of knowledge (limited by desires of the moment, and the falsehoods they have inherited unthinkingly and become used to, limited to the outer surface of things). Surely your Lord knows best him who has gone astray, and He knows best him who goes right (following the Straight Path of his Lord).

Amatul Rahman Omar

That is the highest attainment of their knowledge. Verily, your Lord knows very well those who go astray from His path, as He knows very well those who follow the right guidance.

That, namely, the desire of this world, is the full extent of their knowledge, that is, the limit of their knowledge, namely, that they have preferred this life to [that of] the Hereafter. Truly your Lord knows best those who have strayed from His way, and He knows best those who are [rightly] guided; He has knowledge of both and will requite both.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ

That is what they could reach of knowledge.

meaning, seeking this life and striving hard in its affairs is the best knowledge they have acquired. There is also the reported supplication;

اللْهُمَّ لَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا أَكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا وَلَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا

O Allah! Make not this life the greatest of our concerns, nor the best knowledge that we can attain.
