Al-Qur'an Surah Adh-Dhariyat Verse 45
Adh-Dhariyat [51]: 45 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوْا مِنْ قِيَامٍ وَّمَا كَانُوْا مُنْتَصِرِيْنَۙ (الذاريات : ٥١)

- ٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟

- قِيَامٍ
- stand
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟

- muntaṣirīna
- مُنتَصِرِينَ
- help themselves
Transliteration:
Famas tataa'oo min qiyaaminw wa maa kaanoo muntasireen(QS. aḏ-Ḏāriyāt:45)
English / Sahih Translation:
And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. (QS. Adh-Dhariyat, ayah 45)

So they were unable to rise up, they could not get up upon the sending down of the chastisement, nor were they victors, over the One Who destroyed them.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا مِن قِيَامٍ
Then they were unable to rise up,
they were unable to escape and run away from it,
وَمَا كَانُوا مُنتَصِرِينَ
nor could they help themselves.
nor could they save themselves from the torment that befell them.
