Qaf [50]: 17 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيٰنِ عَنِ الْيَمِيْنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَعِيْدٌ (ق : ٥٠)

Transliteration:

'Iz yatalaqqal mutalaqqi yaani 'anil yameeni wa 'anish shimaali qa'eed (QS. Q̈āf:17)

English / Sahih Translation:

When the two receivers [i.e., recording angels] receive, seated on the right and on the left. (QS. Qaf, ayah 17)

When (idh is dependent because of an implied udhkur, `mention') the two Receivers, the two angels charged with [recording] a person's deeds, receive, [when they] observe and record, seated, that is, [while] both of them are sitting (qa`dun, `seated', is the subject, the predicate of which is the preceding [clause]), on the right and on the left, [hand side] of him --

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ

(Remember) that the two receivers receive,

in reference to the two angels who receive and record the deeds of mankind.

عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ



one sitting on the right and one on the left.
