(The Letter "Qaf")

bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim
1

قۤ ۗوَالْقُرْاٰنِ الْمَجِيْدِ ۖ ١

qaf
قٓۚ
Qaf
wal-qur'āni
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ
By the Quran
l-majīdi
ٱلْمَجِيدِ
the Glorious
Qaf. By the honored Quran... (QS. [50] Qaf: 1)
Tafsir

بَلْ عَجِبُوْٓا اَنْ جَاۤءَهُمْ مُّنْذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ هٰذَا شَيْءٌ عَجِيْبٌ ۚ ٢

bal
بَلْ
Nay
ʿajibū
عَجِبُوٓا۟
they wonder
an
أَن
that
jāahum
جَآءَهُم
has come to them
mundhirun
مُّنذِرٌ
a warner
min'hum
مِّنْهُمْ
from them
faqāla
فَقَالَ
So say
l-kāfirūna
ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ
the disbelievers
hādhā
هَٰذَا
"This
shayon
شَىْءٌ
(is) a thing
ʿajībun
عَجِيبٌ
amazing
But they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say, "This is an amazing thing. (QS. [50] Qaf: 2)
Tafsir

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۚ ذٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيْدٌ ٣

a-idhā
أَءِذَا
What! When
mit'nā
مِتْنَا
we die
wakunnā
وَكُنَّا
and have become
turāban
تُرَابًاۖ
dust
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
rajʿun
رَجْعٌۢ
(is) a return
baʿīdun
بَعِيدٌ
far"
When we have died and have become dust, [we will return to life]? That is a distant [i.e., unlikely] return." (QS. [50] Qaf: 3)
Tafsir
4

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنْقُصُ الْاَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۚوَعِنْدَنَا كِتٰبٌ حَفِيْظٌ ٤

قَدْ
Certainly
ʿalim'nā
عَلِمْنَا
We know
مَا
what
tanquṣu
تَنقُصُ
diminishes
l-arḍu
ٱلْأَرْضُ
the earth
min'hum
مِنْهُمْۖ
of them
waʿindanā
وَعِندَنَا
and with Us
kitābun
كِتَٰبٌ
(is) a Book
ḥafīẓun
حَفِيظٌۢ
guarded
We know what the earth diminishes [i.e., consumes] of them, and with Us is a retaining record. (QS. [50] Qaf: 4)
Tafsir

بَلْ كَذَّبُوْا بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيْٓ اَمْرٍ مَّرِيْجٍ ٥

bal
بَلْ
Nay
kadhabū
كَذَّبُوا۟
they denied
bil-ḥaqi
بِٱلْحَقِّ
the truth
lammā
لَمَّا
when
jāahum
جَآءَهُمْ
it came (to) them
fahum
فَهُمْ
so they
فِىٓ
(are) in
amrin
أَمْرٍ
a state
marījin
مَّرِيجٍ
confused
But they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused condition. (QS. [50] Qaf: 5)
Tafsir

اَفَلَمْ يَنْظُرُوْٓا اِلَى السَّمَاۤءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنٰهَا وَزَيَّنّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِنْ فُرُوْجٍ ٦

afalam
أَفَلَمْ
Then do not
yanẓurū
يَنظُرُوٓا۟
they look
ilā
إِلَى
at
l-samāi
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the sky
fawqahum
فَوْقَهُمْ
above them -
kayfa
كَيْفَ
how
banaynāhā
بَنَيْنَٰهَا
We structured it
wazayyannāhā
وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا
and adorned it
wamā
وَمَا
and not
lahā
لَهَا
for it
min
مِن
any
furūjin
فُرُوجٍ
rifts?
Have they not looked at the heaven above them – how We structured it and adorned it and [how] it has no rifts? (QS. [50] Qaf: 6)
Tafsir
7

وَالْاَرْضَ مَدَدْنٰهَا وَاَلْقَيْنَا فِيْهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَاَنْۢبَتْنَا فِيْهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍۢ بَهِيْجٍۙ ٧

wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
And the earth
madadnāhā
مَدَدْنَٰهَا
We have spread it out
wa-alqaynā
وَأَلْقَيْنَا
and cast
fīhā
فِيهَا
therein
rawāsiya
رَوَٰسِىَ
firmly set mountains
wa-anbatnā
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا
and We made to grow
fīhā
فِيهَا
therein
min
مِن
of
kulli
كُلِّ
every
zawjin
زَوْجٍۭ
kind
bahījin
بَهِيجٍ
beautiful
And the earth – We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind, (QS. [50] Qaf: 7)
Tafsir

تَبْصِرَةً وَّذِكْرٰى لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيْبٍ ٨

tabṣiratan
تَبْصِرَةً
Giving insight
wadhik'rā
وَذِكْرَىٰ
and a reminder
likulli
لِكُلِّ
for every
ʿabdin
عَبْدٍ
slave
munībin
مُّنِيبٍ
who turns
Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah]. (QS. [50] Qaf: 8)
Tafsir
9

وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءً مُّبٰرَكًا فَاَنْۢبَتْنَا بِهٖ جَنّٰتٍ وَّحَبَّ الْحَصِيْدِۙ ٩

wanazzalnā
وَنَزَّلْنَا
And We have sent down
mina
مِنَ
from
l-samāi
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the sky
māan
مَآءً
water
mubārakan
مُّبَٰرَكًا
blessed
fa-anbatnā
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا
then We made to grow
bihi
بِهِۦ
thereby
jannātin
جَنَّٰتٍ
gardens
waḥabba
وَحَبَّ
and grain
l-ḥaṣīdi
ٱلْحَصِيدِ
(for) the harvest
And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest (QS. [50] Qaf: 9)
Tafsir
10

وَالنَّخْلَ بٰسِقٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيْدٌۙ ١٠

wal-nakhla
وَٱلنَّخْلَ
And the palms trees
bāsiqātin
بَاسِقَٰتٍ
tall -
lahā
لَّهَا
for it
ṭalʿun
طَلْعٌ
(are) layers
naḍīdun
نَّضِيدٌ
arranged
And lofty palm trees having fruit arranged in layers – (QS. [50] Qaf: 10)
