Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Ma'idah Verse 88

Al-Ma'idah [5]: 88 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَكُلُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ حَلٰلًا طَيِّبًا ۖوَّاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْتُمْ بِهٖ مُؤْمِنُوْنَ (المائدة : ٥)

wakulū
وَكُلُوا۟
And eat
mimmā
مِمَّا
of what
razaqakumu
رَزَقَكُمُ
has provided you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
ḥalālan
حَلَٰلًا
lawful
ṭayyiban
طَيِّبًاۚ
good
wa-ittaqū
وَٱتَّقُوا۟
And fear
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
alladhī
ٱلَّذِىٓ
the One
antum
أَنتُم
you (are)
bihi
بِهِۦ
in Him
mu'minūna
مُؤْمِنُونَ
believers

Transliteration:

Wa kuloo mimmaa razaqakumul laahu halaalan taiyibaa; wattaqul laahallazeee antum bihee mu'minon (QS. al-Māʾidah:88)

English / Sahih Translation:

And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers. (QS. Al-Ma'idah, ayah 88)

Eat from what Allah has provided you as good and lawful, and fear Allah in whom you believe.

And eat from what God provided for you, permitted/allowed, good/enjoyable , and fear and obey God, whom you are with (in) him believing.

Eat of the sustenance which Allah has given you, the lawful and the pure - and fear Allah in Whom you believe.

Hamid S. Aziz

Allah will not take you to task for the unintentional (or futile) word in your oaths (or promises), but He will take you task for oaths you swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is to feed ten poor men with the average food you feed your families with, or to clothe them, or to free a slave; but he who has not the means, then let him fast three days. That is the expiation of your oaths, when you have sworn; but keep your oaths. Thus does Allah explain to you His revelations that you may be grateful.

Tafsir jalalayn

And eat of the lawful and good food which God has provided you (hallan tayyiban, `lawful and good food', is the direct object and the preceding genitive construction [mimm, `of ... which'] is a circumstantial qualifier connected to the former); and fear God, in Whom you are believers.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَكُلُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّهُ حَلَلاً طَيِّبًا



And eat of the things which Allah has provided for you, lawful and good,

eat of those items that are pure and lawful for you,

وَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ

and have Taqwa of Allah,

in all your affairs, obey Him and seek His pleasure, all the while staying away from defiance and disobedience of Allah,

وَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ الَّذِيَ أَنتُم بِهِ مُوْمِنُونَ



and have Taqwa of Allah in Whom you believe
