Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Ma'idah Verse 40
Al-Ma'idah [5]: 40 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ لَهٗ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۗ يُعَذِّبُ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ وَيَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ ۗوَاللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ (المائدة : ٥)

- Do not
- taʿlam
- تَعْلَمْ
- you know
- anna
- أَنَّ

- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah

- لَهُۥ
- to Him (belongs)

- ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
- (of) the heavens

- وَٱلْأَرْضِ

Transliteration:
Alam ta'lam annal laaha lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ardi yu'az zibu many-yashaa'u wa yaghfiru limany-yashaaa'; wallaahu 'alaa kulli shai'in Qadeer(QS. al-Māʾidah:40)
English / Sahih Translation:
Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth? He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent. (QS. Al-Ma'idah, ayah 40)

Do you not know that to Allah alone belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth? He punishes whomsoever He wills and forgives whomsoever He wills. Allah is powerful over everything.

Did you not know that God, (has) for Him the skies`/space`s, and the earth`s/Planet Earth`s ownership , He tortures whom He wills/wants, and He forgives to whom He wills/wants, and God (is) on every thing capable/able.

But he whom Allah wishes to try, you have no authority with Allah for him. These are those whose heart Allah wishes not to purify. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is mighty woe.

Tafsir jalalayn
Do you not know (the interrogative here is meant as an affirmative) that to God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth? He chastises, him for, whom He wills, chastisement for, and forgives, him for, whom He wills, forgiveness, and God has power over all things, including chastising and forgiving.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللّهَ لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالَارْضِ
.
Know you not that to Allah (Alone) belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth!
He owns everything and decides what He wills for it and no one can resist His judgment.
يُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَاء وَيَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَاء وَاللّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
He punishes whom He wills and He forgives whom He wills. And Allah is able to do all things
