Al-Ma'idah [5]: 113 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالُوْا نُرِيْدُ اَنْ نَّأْكُلَ مِنْهَا وَتَطْمَىِٕنَّ قُلُوْبُنَا وَنَعْلَمَ اَنْ قَدْ صَدَقْتَنَا وَنَكُوْنَ عَلَيْهَا مِنَ الشّٰهِدِيْنَ (المائدة : ٥)

and we know

certainly
ṣadaqtanā
صَدَقْتَنَا
you have spoken the truth to us
wanakūna
وَنَكُونَ
and we be
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَا
over it
mina
مِنَ
among
l-shāhidīna
ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ
the witnesses

Transliteration:

Qaaloo nureedu an naakula minhaa wa tatam'inna quloo bunaa wa na'lama an qad sadaqtana wa nakoona 'alaihaa minash shaahideen (QS. al-Māʾidah:113)

English / Sahih Translation:

They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured and know that you have been truthful to us and be among its witnesses." (QS. Al-Ma'idah, ayah 113)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They said, “We wish that we eat from it, and our hearts be satisfied, and we may know for sure that you have told us the truth, and we may become witnesses to it.”

They said, “We ˹only˺ wish to eat from it to reassure our hearts, to verify you are indeed truthful to us, and to become its witnesses.”

They said: "We desire to eat thereof and that our hearts might be set at rest (with certainty of God’s being our Lord and of your being His Messenger), and so that we might know that you speak the truth to us, and so that we might be among the witnesses (to the meaning and truth of what is demonstrated to us)."

They said, `We desire that we may eat of it and that our hearts be at rest and that we may know that you have indeed spoken the truth to us and that we may be among the witnesses thereto.´

English Literal

They said: "We want that we eat from it, and our hearts/minds (be) assured , and we know that you had been truthful to us, and we be on it from the present/witnessing."

They said, “We wish to eat from it and so that our hearts be convinced and to see that you have spoken the truth to us, and that we may be witnesses upon it.”

Said Jesus the son of Mary, "O Allah, our Lord! Send down to us a table spread with food from heaven, to be a feast for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from Thee. Give us sustenance, for Thou art the best of Providers."

They said: "We wish to eat thereof and to be stronger in faith, and to know that you have indeed told us the truth and that we ourselves be its witnesses. "

They said, "We want to eat from it, so that we may satisfy our hearts and know that you have told us the truth, and that we should be witnesses of it."

They said, “We wish to eat from it, so that our hearts may be reassured, and know that you have told us the truth, and be among those who witness it.”

Tafsir jalalayn

They said, `We desire, to request this in order, to eat of it and that our hearts be reassured, through increased certainty, and that we may know, that we may acquire more awareness [of the fact], that you (annaka is softened to an) have spoken truthfully to us, in your claim to prophethood, and that we may be among the witnesses thereof'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالُواْ نُرِيدُ أَن نَّأْكُلَ مِنْهَا

They said;"We wish to eat thereof."

we need to eat from it,

وَتَطْمَيِنَّ قُلُوبُنَا

and to be stronger in faith,

when we witness it descending from heaven as sustenance for us.

وَنَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ صَدَقْتَنَا

and to know that you have indeed told us the truth,

of your Message and our faith in you increases and also our knowledge.

وَنَكُونَ عَلَيْهَا مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ



and that we ourselves be its witnesses.

testifying that it is a sign from Allah, as proof and evidence that you are a Prophet, and attesting to the truth of what you brought us
