Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hujurat Verse 5

Al-Hujurat [49]: 5 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَوْ اَنَّهُمْ صَبَرُوْا حَتّٰى تَخْرُجَ اِلَيْهِمْ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ ۗوَاللّٰهُ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ (الحجرات : ٤٩)

walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
annahum
أَنَّهُمْ
they
ṣabarū
صَبَرُوا۟
had been patient
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
takhruja
تَخْرُجَ
you came out
ilayhim
إِلَيْهِمْ
to them
lakāna
لَكَانَ
certainly it would be
khayran
خَيْرًا
better
lahum
لَّهُمْۚ
for them
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful

Transliteration:

Wa law annahum sabaroo hatta takhruja ilaihim lakaana khairal lahum; wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem (QS. al-Ḥujurāt:5)

English / Sahih Translation:

And if they had been patient until you [could] come out to them, it would have been better for them. But Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. Al-Hujurat, ayah 5)

Had they remained patient until you come out to them, it would have been much better for them. And Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

However, God is All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate (especially toward His believing servants, and may forgive ill-manners arising from ignorance).

And if that they were patient until you get out/emerge to them, (it) would have been better for them, and God (is) forgiving, merciful.

Tafsir jalalayn

And had they been patient (annahum, `they', has independent status, on account of inceptiveness; alternatively, it is said to govern an implied verb such as thabata, `had [their patience] been maintained') until you came out to them, it would have been better for them; and God is Forgiving, Merciful, to those of them who repent.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ صَبَرُوا حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِمْ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ

And if they had patience till you could come out to them, it would have been better for them.

it would have earned them the better benefit of this life and the Hereafter.

Allah, Worthy of all praise, then encourages them to turn to Him in repentance.

وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ



And Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.

It was reported that this Ayah was revealed about Al-Aqra bin Habis At-Tamimi, may Allah be pleased with him, according to more than one source.

Imam Ahmad recorded that Al-Aqra bin Habis said that

he called the Messenger of Allah from behind his dwellings, saying,

"O Muhammad! O Muhammad!" "O Allah's Messenger!"

but the Messenger did not answer him,

according to another narration, Al-Aqra` said,

"O Allah's Messenger
