Al-Qur'an Surah Muhammad Verse 8
Muhammad [47]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا فَتَعْسًا لَّهُمْ وَاَضَلَّ اَعْمَالَهُمْ (محمد : ٤٧)
- wa-alladhīna
- وَٱلَّذِينَ
- But those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieve
- fataʿsan
- فَتَعْسًا
- destruction is
- lahum
- لَّهُمْ
- for them
- wa-aḍalla
- وَأَضَلَّ
- and He will cause to be lost
- aʿmālahum
- أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ
- their deeds
Transliteration:
Wallazeena kafaroo fata's al lahum wa adalla a'maalahum(QS. Muḥammad:8)
English / Sahih Translation:
But those who disbelieve – for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds. (QS. Muhammad, ayah 8)

Tafsir jalalayn
And as for those who disbelieve, from among the people of Mecca (wa'lladhna kafar is the subject, the predicate of which is [an implicit] ta`is, `they shall be wretched', as indicated [by what follows]) wretchedness shall be their lot, that is, destruction and defeat from God. And He will make their works go to waste (wa-adalla a`mlahum is a supplement to [the implied] ta`is, `they shall be wretched').
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَتَعْسًا لَّهُمْ
But as for those who disbelieve -- misery awaits them,
This misery is the opposite of making firm the footholds of the believers who support the cause of Allah and His Messenger.
It has been confirmed in a Hadith that Allah's Messenger said,
تَعِسَ عَبْدُالدِّينَارِ تَعِسَ عَبْدُالدِّرْهَمِ تَعِسَ عَبْدُالْقَطِيفَةِ تَعِسَ وَانْتَكَسَ وَإِذَا شِيكَ فَلَ انْتَقَش
Misery awaits the servant of the Dinar; misery awaits the servant of the Dirham; misery awaits the servant of velvet. Misery awaits him, and degeneracy; and if he is pricked by a thorn, may he not find anyone to pull it for him.
This means may Allah not cure him.
Then Allah says,
وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَالَهُمْ
and (Allah) will make their deeds vain.
meaning, He will nullify them and make them fruitless.
Thus, Allah says
