Al-Qur'an Surah Muhammad Verse 28

Muhammad [47]: 28 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمُ اتَّبَعُوْا مَآ اَسْخَطَ اللّٰهَ وَكَرِهُوْا رِضْوَانَهٗ فَاَحْبَطَ اَعْمَالَهُمْ ࣖ (محمد : ٤٧)

dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
bi-annahumu
بِأَنَّهُمُ
(is) because they
ittabaʿū
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
followed
مَآ
what
askhaṭa
أَسْخَطَ
angered
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
wakarihū
وَكَرِهُوا۟
and hated
riḍ'wānahu
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ
His pleasure
fa-aḥbaṭa
فَأَحْبَطَ
so He made worthless
aʿmālahum
أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ
their deeds

Transliteration:

Zaalika bi annahumut taba'oo maaa askhatal laaha wa karihoo ridwaanahoo fa ahbata a'maalahum (QS. Muḥammad:28)

English / Sahih Translation:

That is because they followed what angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds. (QS. Muhammad, ayah 28)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

That is because they followed that which has angered Allah, and they disliked His pleasure; therefore He has nullified their deeds.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void.

Ruwwad Translation Center

That is because they follow what incurs Allah’s wrath and they hate what pleases Him, so He will render their deeds worthless.

That is because they have followed what angers God, and have been averse to His good pleasure, so He has made their works to fail.

Abdul Haleem

because they practised things that incurred God’s wrath, and disdained to please Him? He makes their deeds go to waste.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

That is because they followed that which angered Allah and detested His good-will; so He made their works of non-effect.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

This because they followed that which called forth the Wrath of Allah, and they hated Allah's good pleasure; so He made their deeds of no effect.

Abul Ala Maududi

That is because they have followed a way that angered Allah, and have been averse to His good pleasure. So He reduced all their works to nought.

Ahmed Ali

Because they followed what displeases God, and they were averse to pleasing Him. So We nullified their deeds.

Ahmed Raza Khan

This is because they followed the matter which displeases Allah, and they disliked what pleases Him – He therefore squandered away all their deeds.

Ali Quli Qarai

That, because they pursued what displeased Allah, and loathed His pleasure. So He has made their works fail.

Ali Ünal

This is because they have followed what incurs God’s wrath (condemnation), and are averse to what pleases Him, and so He has caused all their (previous good) deeds to go to waste.

Amatul Rahman Omar

(They will be treated) thus, because they followed that which called forth the displeasure of Allâh and were averse to (seeking) His good pleasure. That is why He will make their deeds fruitless.

English Literal

That (is) with that they followed what angered/dissatisfied God, and they hated His acceptance/satisfaction , so He wasted/invalidated their deeds.

Faridul Haque

This is because they followed the matter which displeases Allah, and they disliked what pleases Him - He therefore squandered away all their deeds.

Hamid S. Aziz

That is because they follow what is displeasing to Allah and are averse to His pleasure, therefore, He has made null their deeds.

Hilali & Khan

That is because they followed that which angered Allah, and hated that which pleased Him. So He made their deeds fruitless.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

But how will it be when the angels cause them to die, smiting their faces and their backs?

That is because they follow what is displeasing to Allah and are averse to His pleasure, therefore He has made null their deeds.

That will be because they followed that which angereth Allah, and hated that which pleaseth Him. Therefor He hath made their actions vain.

for their following that which had incurred God's anger, and their hatred to please God. Thus, God has made their deeds devoid of all virtue.

Qaribullah & Darwish

That is because they follow what angers Allah and hate His pleasure, therefore He has annulled their deeds.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

That is because they followed that which angered Allah and hated what earns His pleasure, so He rendered their deeds worthless.

Wahiduddin Khan

because they followed the way that made God wrathful, and hated to adopt the way of His pleasure? So He made their actions come to nothing.

Talal Itani

That is because they pursued what displeases God, and they disliked His approval, so He nullified their works.

Tafsir jalalayn

That, taking of them away in the state mentioned, is because they followed what angers God, and [because] they were averse to what pleases Him, that is to say, [they were averse to] doing what pleases Him. Therefore He has made their works fail.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

That is because they pursued what angered Allah and disliked what earns His pleasure, so He rendered their deeds worthless.
