Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Ahqaf Verse 22
Al-Ahqaf [46]: 22 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
قَالُوْٓا اَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ اٰلِهَتِنَاۚ فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ (الأحقاف : ٤٦)

- to turn us away

- the truthful"
Transliteration:
Qaaloo aji'tanaa litaa fikanaa 'an aalihatinaa faatinaa bimaa ta'idunaaa in kunta minas saadiqeen(QS. al-ʾAḥq̈āf:22)
English / Sahih Translation:
They said, "Have you come to delude us away from our gods? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful." (QS. Al-Ahqaf, ayah 22)
Mufti Taqi Usmani
They said, “Have you come to make us deviate from our gods? So bring us that with which you are threatening us, if you are truthful.”

They argued, “Have you come to turn us away from our gods? Bring us then whatever you threaten us with, if what you say is true.”

Tafsir jalalayn
They said, `Have you come to divert us from our gods?, to turn us away from worship of them. Then bring us what you threaten us with, of chastisement for worshipping them, if you are of the truthful', in [saying] that it will befall us.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
قَالُوا أَجِيْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ الِهَتِنَا
Have you come to delude us from our gods,
meaning, to prevent us
عَنْ الِهَتِنَا
(from our gods),
فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Then bring us that with which you threaten us, if you are one of the truthful!
They sought to hasten Allah's torment and punishment, believing that it will not happen.
This is similar to Allah's saying,
يَسْتَعْجِلُ بِهَا الَّذِينَ لَا يُوْمِنُونَ بِهَا
Those who do not believe in it (the Last Hour) seek to hasten it, (42;18).
