Al-Ahqaf [46]: 12 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمِنْ قَبْلِهٖ كِتٰبُ مُوْسٰٓى اِمَامًا وَّرَحْمَةً ۗوَهٰذَا كِتٰبٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّسَانًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّيُنْذِرَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا ۖوَبُشْرٰى لِلْمُحْسِنِيْنَ (الأحقاف : ٤٦)

And before it

(was the) Scripture

مُّصَدِّقٌ

لِّسَانًا
(in) language
ʿarabiyyan
عَرَبِيًّا
Arabic
liyundhira
لِّيُنذِرَ
to warn
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ẓalamū
ظَلَمُوا۟
do wrong
wabush'rā
وَبُشْرَىٰ
and (as) a glad tidings
lil'muḥ'sinīna
لِلْمُحْسِنِينَ
for the good-doers

Transliteration:

Wa min qablihee kitaabu Moosaaa imaamanw-wa rahmah; wa haazaa Kitaabum musad diqul lisaanan 'Arabiyyal liyunziral lazeena zalamoo wa bushraa lilmuhsineen (QS. al-ʾAḥq̈āf:12)

English / Sahih Translation:

And before it was the scripture of Moses to lead and as a mercy. And this is a confirming Book in an Arabic tongue to warn those who have wronged and as good tidings to the doers of good. (QS. Al-Ahqaf, ayah 12)

Tafsir jalalayn

Yet before it, that is, [before] the Qur'n, [there was] the Book of Moses, that is, the Torah, as a guidepost and a mercy, for those who believed in it (imman wa-rahmatan are two circumstantial qualifiers) and this, Qur'n, is a Book that confirms, scriptures before it, in the Arabic tongue (lisnan `arabiyyan is a circumstantial qualifier referring to the subject of musaddiqun, `that confirms') to warn those who do wrong, the idolaters of Mecca, and, it is, good tidings for the virtuous, the believers.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمِن قَبْلِهِ كِتَابُ مُوسَى

And before this was the Scripture of Musa, (and it was the Tawrah).

إِمَامًا وَرَحْمَةً

وَهَذَا كِتَابٌ

as a guide and mercy. And this is a Book, (meaning, the Qur'an).

مُّصَدِّقٌ

confirming,

meaning, that which came before it of the previous Books.

لِّسَانًا عَرَبِيًّا

in the Arabic tongue,

means that it is eloquent and clear.

لِّيُنذِرَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَبُشْرَى لِلْمُحْسِنِينَ




to warn those who do wrong, and as glad tidings for the doers of good.

meaning, it contains a warning to the disbelievers and glad tidings for the believers.

Allah then says
