(The Wind-Curved Sandhills)

11

وَقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَوْ كَانَ خَيْرًا مَّا سَبَقُوْنَآ اِلَيْهِۗ وَاِذْ لَمْ يَهْتَدُوْا بِهٖ فَسَيَقُوْلُوْنَ هٰذَآ اِفْكٌ قَدِيْمٌ ١١

waqāla
وَقَالَ
And say
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
of those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
law
لَوْ
"If
kāna
كَانَ
it had been
khayran
خَيْرًا
good
مَّا
not
sabaqūnā
سَبَقُونَآ
they (would) have preceded us
ilayhi
إِلَيْهِۚ
to it"
wa-idh
وَإِذْ
And when
lam
لَمْ
not
yahtadū
يَهْتَدُوا۟
they (are) guided
bihi
بِهِۦ
by it
fasayaqūlūna
فَسَيَقُولُونَ
they say
hādhā
هَٰذَآ
"This
if'kun
إِفْكٌ
(is) a lie
qadīmun
قَدِيمٌ
ancient"
And those who disbelieve say of those who believe, "If it had [truly] been good, they would not have preceded us to it." And when they are not guided by it, they will say, "This is an ancient falsehood." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 11)
Tafsir
12

وَمِنْ قَبْلِهٖ كِتٰبُ مُوْسٰٓى اِمَامًا وَّرَحْمَةً ۗوَهٰذَا كِتٰبٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّسَانًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّيُنْذِرَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا ۖوَبُشْرٰى لِلْمُحْسِنِيْنَ ١٢

wamin
وَمِن
And before it
qablihi
قَبْلِهِۦ
And before it
kitābu
كِتَٰبُ
(was the) Scripture
mūsā
مُوسَىٰٓ
(of) Musa
imāman
إِمَامًا
(as) a guide
waraḥmatan
وَرَحْمَةًۚ
and a mercy
wahādhā
وَهَٰذَا
And this
kitābun
كِتَٰبٌ
(is) a Book
muṣaddiqun
مُّصَدِّقٌ
confirming
lisānan
لِّسَانًا
(in) language
ʿarabiyyan
عَرَبِيًّا
Arabic
liyundhira
لِّيُنذِرَ
to warn
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ẓalamū
ظَلَمُوا۟
do wrong
wabush'rā
وَبُشْرَىٰ
and (as) a glad tidings
lil'muḥ'sinīna
لِلْمُحْسِنِينَ
for the good-doers
And before it was the scripture of Moses to lead and as a mercy. And this is a confirming Book in an Arabic tongue to warn those who have wronged and as good tidings to the doers of good. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 12)
Tafsir
13

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ قَالُوْا رَبُّنَا اللّٰهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوْا فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَۚ ١٣

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
qālū
قَالُوا۟
say
rabbunā
رَبُّنَا
"Our Lord
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(is) Allah"
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
is'taqāmū
ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟
remain firm
falā
فَلَا
then no
khawfun
خَوْفٌ
fear
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
on them
walā
وَلَا
and nor
hum
هُمْ
they
yaḥzanūna
يَحْزَنُونَ
will grieve
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah," and then remained on a right course – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 13)
Tafsir
14

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَصْحٰبُ الْجَنَّةِ خٰلِدِيْنَ فِيْهَاۚ جَزَاۤءً ۢبِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ١٤

ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
aṣḥābu
أَصْحَٰبُ
(are the) companions
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
(of) Paradise
khālidīna
خَٰلِدِينَ
abiding forever
fīhā
فِيهَا
therein
jazāan
جَزَآءًۢ
a reward
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used (to)
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
do
Those are the companions of Paradise, abiding eternally therein as reward for what they used to do. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 14)
Tafsir
15

وَوَصَّيْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ اِحْسَانًا ۗحَمَلَتْهُ اُمُّهٗ كُرْهًا وَّوَضَعَتْهُ كُرْهًا ۗوَحَمْلُهٗ وَفِصٰلُهٗ ثَلٰثُوْنَ شَهْرًا ۗحَتّٰىٓ اِذَا بَلَغَ اَشُدَّهٗ وَبَلَغَ اَرْبَعِيْنَ سَنَةًۙ قَالَ رَبِّ اَوْزِعْنِيْٓ اَنْ اَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِيْٓ اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلٰى وَالِدَيَّ وَاَنْ اَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضٰىهُ وَاَصْلِحْ لِيْ فِيْ ذُرِّيَّتِيْۗ اِنِّيْ تُبْتُ اِلَيْكَ وَاِنِّيْ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ ١٥

wawaṣṣaynā
وَوَصَّيْنَا
And We have enjoined
l-insāna
ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ
(on) man
biwālidayhi
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ
to his parents
iḥ'sānan
إِحْسَٰنًاۖ
kindness
ḥamalathu
حَمَلَتْهُ
Carried him
ummuhu
أُمُّهُۥ
his mother
kur'han
كُرْهًا
(with) hardship
wawaḍaʿathu
وَوَضَعَتْهُ
and gave birth to him
kur'han
كُرْهًاۖ
(with) hardship
waḥamluhu
وَحَمْلُهُۥ
And (the) bearing of him
wafiṣāluhu
وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ
and (the) weaning of him
thalāthūna
ثَلَٰثُونَ
(is) thirty
shahran
شَهْرًاۚ
month(s)
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰٓ
until
idhā
إِذَا
when
balagha
بَلَغَ
he reaches
ashuddahu
أَشُدَّهُۥ
his maturity
wabalagha
وَبَلَغَ
and reaches
arbaʿīna
أَرْبَعِينَ
forty
sanatan
سَنَةً
year(s)
qāla
قَالَ
he says
rabbi
رَبِّ
"My Lord
awziʿ'nī
أَوْزِعْنِىٓ
grant me (the) power
an
أَنْ
that
ashkura
أَشْكُرَ
I may be grateful
niʿ'mataka
نِعْمَتَكَ
(for) Your favor
allatī
ٱلَّتِىٓ
which
anʿamta
أَنْعَمْتَ
You have bestowed
ʿalayya
عَلَىَّ
upon me
waʿalā
وَعَلَىٰ
and upon
wālidayya
وَٰلِدَىَّ
my parents
wa-an
وَأَنْ
and that
aʿmala
أَعْمَلَ
I do
ṣāliḥan
صَٰلِحًا
righteous (deeds)
tarḍāhu
تَرْضَىٰهُ
which please You
wa-aṣliḥ
وَأَصْلِحْ
and make righteous
لِى
for me
فِى
among
dhurriyyatī
ذُرِّيَّتِىٓۖ
my offspring
innī
إِنِّى
indeed
tub'tu
تُبْتُ
I turn
ilayka
إِلَيْكَ
to You
wa-innī
وَإِنِّى
and indeed I am
mina
مِنَ
of
l-mus'limīna
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ
those who submit"
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 15)
Tafsir
16

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ نَتَقَبَّلُ عَنْهُمْ اَحْسَنَ مَا عَمِلُوْا وَنَتَجَاوَزُ عَنْ سَيِّاٰتِهِمْ فِيْٓ اَصْحٰبِ الْجَنَّةِۗ وَعْدَ الصِّدْقِ الَّذِيْ كَانُوْا يُوْعَدُوْنَ ١٦

ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) the ones
nataqabbalu
نَتَقَبَّلُ
We will accept
ʿanhum
عَنْهُمْ
from them
aḥsana
أَحْسَنَ
(the) best
مَا
(of) what
ʿamilū
عَمِلُوا۟
they did
wanatajāwazu
وَنَتَجَاوَزُ
and We will overlook
ʿan
عَن
from
sayyiātihim
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ
their evil deeds
فِىٓ
among
aṣḥābi
أَصْحَٰبِ
(the) companions
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِۖ
(of) Paradise
waʿda
وَعْدَ
A promise
l-ṣid'qi
ٱلصِّدْقِ
true
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
which
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they were
yūʿadūna
يُوعَدُونَ
promised
Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 16)
Tafsir
17

وَالَّذِيْ قَالَ لِوَالِدَيْهِ اُفٍّ لَّكُمَآ اَتَعِدَانِنِيْٓ اَنْ اُخْرَجَ وَقَدْ خَلَتِ الْقُرُوْنُ مِنْ قَبْلِيْۚ وَهُمَا يَسْتَغِيْثٰنِ اللّٰهَ وَيْلَكَ اٰمِنْ ۖاِنَّ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّۚ فَيَقُوْلُ مَا هٰذَآ اِلَّآ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ١٧

wa-alladhī
وَٱلَّذِى
But the one who
qāla
قَالَ
says
liwālidayhi
لِوَٰلِدَيْهِ
to his parents
uffin
أُفٍّ
"Uff
lakumā
لَّكُمَآ
to both of you!
ataʿidāninī
أَتَعِدَانِنِىٓ
Do you promise me
an
أَنْ
that
ukh'raja
أُخْرَجَ
I will be brought forth
waqad
وَقَدْ
and have already passed away
khalati
خَلَتِ
and have already passed away
l-qurūnu
ٱلْقُرُونُ
the generations
min
مِن
before me?"
qablī
قَبْلِى
before me?"
wahumā
وَهُمَا
And they both
yastaghīthāni
يَسْتَغِيثَانِ
seek help
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
(of) Allah
waylaka
وَيْلَكَ
"Woe to you!
āmin
ءَامِنْ
Believe!
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
waʿda
وَعْدَ
(the) Promise
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ḥaqqun
حَقٌّ
(is) true"
fayaqūlu
فَيَقُولُ
But he says
مَا
"Not
hādhā
هَٰذَآ
(is) this
illā
إِلَّآ
but
asāṭīru
أَسَٰطِيرُ
(the) stories
l-awalīna
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
(of) the former (people)"
But one who says to his parents, "Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth [from the earth] when generations before me have already passed on [into oblivion]?" while they call to Allah for help [and to their son], "Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth." But he says, "This is not but legends of the former peoples" – (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 17)
Tafsir
18

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ فِيْٓ اُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْاِنْسِ ۗاِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا خٰسِرِيْنَ ١٨

ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) the ones
ḥaqqa
حَقَّ
(has) proved true
ʿalayhimu
عَلَيْهِمُ
against them
l-qawlu
ٱلْقَوْلُ
the word
فِىٓ
among
umamin
أُمَمٍ
nations
qad
قَدْ
(that) already passed away
khalat
خَلَتْ
(that) already passed away
min
مِن
before them
qablihim
قَبْلِهِم
before them
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-jini
ٱلْجِنِّ
(the) jinn
wal-insi
وَٱلْإِنسِۖ
and the men
innahum
إِنَّهُمْ
Indeed, they
kānū
كَانُوا۟
are
khāsirīna
خَٰسِرِينَ
(the) losers
Those are the ones upon whom the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect, [who will be] among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 18)
Tafsir
19

وَلِكُلٍّ دَرَجٰتٌ مِّمَّا عَمِلُوْاۚ وَلِيُوَفِّيَهُمْ اَعْمَالَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ ١٩

walikullin
وَلِكُلٍّ
And for all
darajātun
دَرَجَٰتٌ
(are) degrees
mimmā
مِّمَّا
for what
ʿamilū
عَمِلُوا۟ۖ
they did
waliyuwaffiyahum
وَلِيُوَفِّيَهُمْ
and that He may fully compensate them
aʿmālahum
أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ
(for) their deeds
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
لَا
will not be wronged
yuẓ'lamūna
يُظْلَمُونَ
will not be wronged
And for all there are degrees [of reward and punishment] for what they have done, and [it is] so that He may fully compensate them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 19)
Tafsir
20

وَيَوْمَ يُعْرَضُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا عَلَى النَّارِۗ اَذْهَبْتُمْ طَيِّبٰتِكُمْ فِيْ حَيَاتِكُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهَاۚ فَالْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ عَذَابَ الْهُوْنِ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَ فِى الْاَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْسُقُوْنَ ࣖ ٢٠

wayawma
وَيَوْمَ
And (the) Day
yuʿ'raḍu
يُعْرَضُ
will be exposed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
ʿalā
عَلَى
to
l-nāri
ٱلنَّارِ
the Fire
adhhabtum
أَذْهَبْتُمْ
"You exhausted
ṭayyibātikum
طَيِّبَٰتِكُمْ
your good things
فِى
in
ḥayātikumu
حَيَاتِكُمُ
your life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
wa-is'tamtaʿtum
وَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم
and you took your pleasures
bihā
بِهَا
therein
fal-yawma
فَٱلْيَوْمَ
So today
tuj'zawna
تُجْزَوْنَ
you will be recompensed
ʿadhāba
عَذَابَ
(with) a punishment
l-hūni
ٱلْهُونِ
humiliating
bimā
بِمَا
because
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you were
tastakbirūna
تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
arrogant
فِى
in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
bighayri
بِغَيْرِ
without
l-ḥaqi
ٱلْحَقِّ
[the] right
wabimā
وَبِمَا
and because
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you were
tafsuqūna
تَفْسُقُونَ
defiantly disobedient"
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them, so this Day you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation because you were arrogant upon the earth without right and because you were defiantly disobedient." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 20)
Tafsir
