(The Wind-Curved Sandhills)

1

حٰمۤ ۚ ١

hha-meem
حمٓ
Ha Meem
Ha, Meem. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 1)
Tafsir
2

تَنْزِيْلُ الْكِتٰبِ مِنَ اللّٰهِ الْعَزِيْزِ الْحَكِيْمِ ٢

tanzīlu
تَنزِيلُ
(The) revelation
l-kitābi
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
(of) the Book
mina
مِنَ
(is) from
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
l-ʿazīzi
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
the All-Mighty
l-ḥakīmi
ٱلْحَكِيمِ
the All-Wise
The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 2)
Tafsir
3

مَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَاَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّىۗ وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا عَمَّآ اُنْذِرُوْا مُعْرِضُوْنَ ٣

مَا
Not
khalaqnā
خَلَقْنَا
We created
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
and the earth
wamā
وَمَا
and what
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَآ
(is) between both of them
illā
إِلَّا
except
bil-ḥaqi
بِٱلْحَقِّ
in truth
wa-ajalin
وَأَجَلٍ
and (for) a term
musamman
مُّسَمًّىۚ
appointed
wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
But those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
ʿammā
عَمَّآ
from what
undhirū
أُنذِرُوا۟
they are warned
muʿ'riḍūna
مُعْرِضُونَ
(are) turning away
We did not create the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term. But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 3)
Tafsir
4

قُلْ اَرَءَيْتُمْ مَّا تَدْعُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ اَرُوْنِيْ مَاذَا خَلَقُوْا مِنَ الْاَرْضِ اَمْ لَهُمْ شِرْكٌ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ ۖائْتُوْنِيْ بِكِتٰبٍ مِّنْ قَبْلِ هٰذَآ اَوْ اَثٰرَةٍ مِّنْ عِلْمٍ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ ٤

قُلْ
Say
ara-aytum
أَرَءَيْتُم
"Do you see
مَّا
what
tadʿūna
تَدْعُونَ
you call
min
مِن
besides
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah?
arūnī
أَرُونِى
Show me
mādhā
مَاذَا
what
khalaqū
خَلَقُوا۟
they have created
mina
مِنَ
of
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
am
أَمْ
or
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
shir'kun
شِرْكٌ
(is) any share
فِى
in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِۖ
the heavens?
i'tūnī
ٱئْتُونِى
Bring me
bikitābin
بِكِتَٰبٍ
a book
min
مِّن
from
qabli
قَبْلِ
before
hādhā
هَٰذَآ
this
aw
أَوْ
or
athāratin
أَثَٰرَةٍ
traces
min
مِّنْ
of
ʿil'min
عِلْمٍ
knowledge
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you are
ṣādiqīna
صَٰدِقِينَ
truthful"
Say, [O Muhammad], "Have you considered that which you invoke besides Allah? Show me what they have created of the earth; or did they have partnership in [creation of] the heavens? Bring me a scripture [revealed] before this or a [remaining] trace of knowledge, if you should be truthful." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 4)
Tafsir
5

وَمَنْ اَضَلُّ مِمَّنْ يَّدْعُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ مَنْ لَّا يَسْتَجِيْبُ لَهٗٓ اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِ وَهُمْ عَنْ دُعَاۤىِٕهِمْ غٰفِلُوْنَ ٥

waman
وَمَنْ
And who
aḍallu
أَضَلُّ
(is) more astray
mimman
مِمَّن
than (he) who
yadʿū
يَدْعُوا۟
calls
min
مِن
besides
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
man
مَن
who
لَّا
will not respond
yastajību
يَسْتَجِيبُ
will not respond
lahu
لَهُۥٓ
to him
ilā
إِلَىٰ
until
yawmi
يَوْمِ
(the) Day
l-qiyāmati
ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ
(of) Resurrection
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
ʿan
عَن
of
duʿāihim
دُعَآئِهِمْ
their calls
ghāfilūna
غَٰفِلُونَ
(are) unaware
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection [i.e., never], and they, of their invocation, are unaware. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 5)
Tafsir
6

وَاِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ كَانُوْا لَهُمْ اَعْدَاۤءً وَّكَانُوْا بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كٰفِرِيْنَ ٦

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
ḥushira
حُشِرَ
are gathered
l-nāsu
ٱلنَّاسُ
the people
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they will be
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
aʿdāan
أَعْدَآءً
enemies
wakānū
وَكَانُوا۟
and they will be
biʿibādatihim
بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ
of their worship
kāfirīna
كَٰفِرِينَ
deniers
And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 6)
Tafsir
7

وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتُنَا بَيِّنٰتٍ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمْۙ هٰذَا سِحْرٌ مُّبِيْنٌۗ ٧

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
tut'lā
تُتْلَىٰ
are recited
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
āyātunā
ءَايَٰتُنَا
Our Verses
bayyinātin
بَيِّنَٰتٍ
clear
qāla
قَالَ
say
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
lil'ḥaqqi
لِلْحَقِّ
of the truth
lammā
لَمَّا
when
jāahum
جَآءَهُمْ
it comes to them
hādhā
هَٰذَا
"This
siḥ'run
سِحْرٌ
(is) a magic
mubīnun
مُّبِينٌ
clear"
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is obvious magic." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 7)
Tafsir
8

اَمْ يَقُوْلُوْنَ افْتَرٰىهُ ۗ قُلْ اِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهٗ فَلَا تَمْلِكُوْنَ لِيْ مِنَ اللّٰهِ شَيْـًٔا ۗهُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا تُفِيْضُوْنَ فِيْهِۗ كَفٰى بِهٖ شَهِيْدًا ۢ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۗ وَهُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ ٨

am
أَمْ
Or
yaqūlūna
يَقُولُونَ
they say
if'tarāhu
ٱفْتَرَىٰهُۖ
"He has invented it"
qul
قُلْ
Say
ini
إِنِ
"If
if'taraytuhu
ٱفْتَرَيْتُهُۥ
I have invented it
falā
فَلَا
then not
tamlikūna
تَمْلِكُونَ
you have power
لِى
for me
mina
مِنَ
against
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
shayan
شَيْـًٔاۖ
anything
huwa
هُوَ
He
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
bimā
بِمَا
of what
tufīḍūna
تُفِيضُونَ
you utter
fīhi
فِيهِۖ
concerning it
kafā
كَفَىٰ
Sufficient is He
bihi
بِهِۦ
Sufficient is He
shahīdan
شَهِيدًۢا
(as) a Witness
baynī
بَيْنِى
between me
wabaynakum
وَبَيْنَكُمْۖ
and between you
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
and He
l-ghafūru
ٱلْغَفُورُ
(is) the Oft-Forgiving
l-raḥīmu
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
the Most Merciful
Or do they say, "He has invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, you will not possess for me [the power of protection] from Allah at all. He is most knowing of that in which you are involved. Sufficient is He as Witness between me and you, and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 8)
Tafsir
9

قُلْ مَا كُنْتُ بِدْعًا مِّنَ الرُّسُلِ وَمَآ اَدْرِيْ مَا يُفْعَلُ بِيْ وَلَا بِكُمْۗ اِنْ اَتَّبِعُ اِلَّا مَا يُوْحٰٓى اِلَيَّ وَمَآ اَنَا۠ اِلَّا نَذِيْرٌ مُّبِيْنٌ ٩

qul
قُلْ
Say
مَا
"Not
kuntu
كُنتُ
I am
bid'ʿan
بِدْعًا
a new (one)
mina
مِّنَ
among
l-rusuli
ٱلرُّسُلِ
the Messengers
wamā
وَمَآ
and not
adrī
أَدْرِى
I know
مَا
what
yuf'ʿalu
يُفْعَلُ
will be done
بِى
with me
walā
وَلَا
and not
bikum
بِكُمْۖ
with you
in
إِنْ
Not
attabiʿu
أَتَّبِعُ
I follow
illā
إِلَّا
but
مَا
what
yūḥā
يُوحَىٰٓ
is revealed
ilayya
إِلَىَّ
to me
wamā
وَمَآ
and not
anā
أَنَا۠
I am
illā
إِلَّا
but
nadhīrun
نَذِيرٌ
a warner
mubīnun
مُّبِينٌ
clear"
Say, "I am not something original among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner." (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 9)
Tafsir
10

قُلْ اَرَءَيْتُمْ اِنْ كَانَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللّٰهِ وَكَفَرْتُمْ بِهٖ وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْۢ بَنِيْٓ اِسْرَاۤءِيْلَ عَلٰى مِثْلِهٖ فَاٰمَنَ وَاسْتَكْبَرْتُمْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِى الْقَوْمَ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ ࣖ ١٠

qul
قُلْ
Say
ara-aytum
أَرَءَيْتُمْ
"Do you see
in
إِن
if
kāna
كَانَ
it is
min
مِنْ
from Allah
ʿindi
عِندِ
from Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
from Allah
wakafartum
وَكَفَرْتُم
and you disbelieve
bihi
بِهِۦ
in it
washahida
وَشَهِدَ
and testifies
shāhidun
شَاهِدٌ
a witness
min
مِّنۢ
from
banī
بَنِىٓ
(the) Children of Israel
is'rāīla
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
(the) Children of Israel
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
to
mith'lihi
مِثْلِهِۦ
(the) like thereof
faāmana
فَـَٔامَنَ
then he believed
wa-is'takbartum
وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْۖ
while you are arrogant?"
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
yahdī
يَهْدِى
guide
l-qawma
ٱلْقَوْمَ
the people
l-ẓālimīna
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
Say, "Have you considered: if it [i.e., the Quran] was from Allah, and you disbelieved in it while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed while you were arrogant...?" Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. (QS. [46] Al-Ahqaf: 10)
