Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Jathiyah Verse 31

Al-Jathiyah [45]: 31 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْاۗ اَفَلَمْ تَكُنْ اٰيٰتِيْ تُتْلٰى عَلَيْكُمْ فَاسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ وَكُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِيْنَ (الجاثية : ٤٥)

wa-ammā
وَأَمَّا
But as for
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوٓا۟
disbelieved
afalam
أَفَلَمْ
"Then were not
takun
تَكُنْ
"Then were not
āyātī
ءَايَٰتِى
My Verses
tut'lā
تُتْلَىٰ
recited
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
to you
fa-is'takbartum
فَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ
but you were proud
wakuntum
وَكُنتُمْ
and you became
qawman
قَوْمًا
a people
muj'rimīna
مُّجْرِمِينَ
criminals?"

Transliteration:

Wa ammal lazeena kafarooo afalam takun Aayaatee tutlaa 'alaikum fastakbartum wa kuntum qawmam mujrimeen (QS. al-Jāthiyah:31)

English / Sahih Translation:

But as for those who disbelieved, [it will be said], "Were not Our verses recited to you, but you were arrogant and became a criminal people? (QS. Al-Jathiyah, ayah 31)

And as to those who disbelieved, (it will be said to them,) “Had My verses not been recited to you? But you showed arrogance, and you were a guilty people;

And as for those who disbelieved, ˹they will be told,˺ “Were My revelations not recited to you, yet you acted arrogantly and were a wicked people?

But those who denied the Truth, they shall be told: “Were My Signs not rehearsed to you? But you waxed proud and became a guilty people.”

As for the infidels, (it will be said): "Were not My messages read out to you? But you behaved with self-conceit, and became a sinful people.

And to those who disbelieved, it will be said “Was it not that Our verses were recited to you? In response you were haughty and were a guilty people.”

But as for the faithless, [they will be asked,] ‘Were not My signs recited to you? But you were disdainful, and you were a guilty lot.

As for those who disbelieved (there will be this reproach): "Were My Revelations not recited to you (indeed, recited repeatedly) but you in arrogance scorned them, and proved yourselves a guilty people committed to accumulating sin?

But as for those who disbelieved (God will say,) `Is it not that My Messages were recited to you yet you behaved arrogantly and you became those who cut off their ties (with us)?

English Literal

And but those who disbelieved (were told): "Were not My evidences/verses being read/recited on (to) you, so you became arrogant, and you were a nation (of) criminals/sinners?"367

And to those who disbelieved, it will be said “Was it not that Our verses were recited to you? In response you were haughty and were a guilty people.”

As to those who disbelieved (it will be said,) "What! Were not Our revelations recited unto you? But you were proud and became a guilty people."

But as for those who disbelieved (it will be said to them): "Were not Our Verses recited to you? But you were proud, and you were a people who were Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals)."

Then as to those who believed and did good, their Lord will admit them to His mercy. That is the manifest achievement.

To the unbelievers the Lord will say, "Were not Our revelations recited to you and did not you arrogantly reject them? You were a sinful people".

But, to the unbelievers (it will be said): 'Were My verses not recited to you, but you were proud and were you not a sinful nation'

But as for those who disbelieved (it will be said to them): "Were not Our Ayat recited to you But you were proud, and you were a people who were criminals."

But those who rejected the truth [will be asked], "When My revelations were recited to you, were you not arrogant and did you not persist in wicked deeds?

But as for those who disbelieved: “Were My revelations not recited to you? But you turned arrogant, and were guilty people.”

Tafsir jalalayn

But as for those who disbelieved, it will be said to them; `Were not My signs, [was not] the Qur'n, recited to you, but you were disdainful, you were arrogant, and were a guilty, a disbelieving, lot?

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَفَلَمْ تَكُنْ ايَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَاسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ

But as for those who disbelieved (it will be said to them);

"Were not Our Ayat recited to you? But you were proud..."

They will be admonished and criticized with this statement, that means, `have not the Ayat of Ar-Rahman been recited to you? But you did not follow them out of pride and turned away upon hearing them,'

وَكُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ



and you were a people who were criminals.

`by your actions, as well as, the denial that your hearts contained.
