Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Jathiyah Verse 25

Al-Jathiyah [45]: 25 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتُنَا بَيِّنٰتٍ مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمْ اِلَّآ اَنْ قَالُوا ائْتُوْا بِاٰبَاۤىِٕنَآ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ (الجاثية : ٤٥)

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
tut'lā
تُتْلَىٰ
are recited
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
āyātunā
ءَايَٰتُنَا
Our Verses
bayyinātin
بَيِّنَٰتٍ
clear
مَّا
not
kāna
كَانَ
is
ḥujjatahum
حُجَّتَهُمْ
their argument
illā
إِلَّآ
except
an
أَن
that
qālū
قَالُوا۟
they say
i'tū
ٱئْتُوا۟
"Bring
biābāinā
بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ
our forefathers
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you are
ṣādiqīna
صَٰدِقِينَ
truthful"

Transliteration:

Wa izaa tutlaa 'alaihim aayaatuna baiyinaatim maa kaana hujjatahum illaaa an qaalu'too bi aabaaa'inaaa in kuntum saadiqeen (QS. al-Jāthiyah:25)

English / Sahih Translation:

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, their argument is only that they say, "Bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful." (QS. Al-Jathiyah, ayah 25)

When Our verses are recited to them in all their clarity, their argument is none but that they say, “Bring our fathers, if you are truthful.”

When Our clarifying Verses are recited to them, their only argument is to say, “Bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And when Our signs, of the Qur'n, indicating Our power to resurrect, are recited to them, being clear signs, evident [signs] (bayyintin, `clear signs', is a circumstantial qualifier), their only argument is to say, `Bring us our fathers, alive, if you are being truthful', [when you say] that we will be resurrected.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَإِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِمْ ايَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍ

And when Our Clear Ayat are recited to them,

means, when the truth is made plain to them and used as evidence against them, asserting that Allah is able to resurrect the bodies after they have perished and disintegrated,

مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمْ إِلاَّا أَن قَالُوا

ايْتُوا بِأبَايِنَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ



their argument is no other than that they say;"Bring back our fathers, if you are truthful!"

`bring them back to life, if what you say is true.'

Allah the Exalted said
