Ad-Dukhan [44]: 49 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ذُقْۚ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْعَزِيْزُ الْكَرِيْمُ (الدخان : ٤٤)

Transliteration:

Zuq innaka antal 'azeezul kareem (QS. ad-Dukhān:49)

English / Sahih Translation:

[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble! (QS. Ad-Dukhan, ayah 49)

Tafsir jalalayn

And it will be said to him; `Taste!, that is, [taste] the chastisement. Indeed you are the mighty, the noble one!, as you claimed when you used to say, `There is nothing between its two mountains [sc. Mecca] that is mightier or nobler than me!'

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Taste you (this)! Verily, you were (pretending to be) the mighty, the generous.

means, they (the keepers of Hell) will say that to him by way of ridicule and rebuke.

Ad-Dahhak reported that Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said;

"This means, you are neither mighty nor generous."

And Allah's saying;

إِنَّ هَذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ
