Al-Qur'an Surah Ad-Dukhan Verse 31
Ad-Dukhan [44]: 31 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ ۗاِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِيْنَ (الدخان : ٤٤)

Transliteration:
Min Fir'awn; innahoo kaana 'aaliyam minal musrifeen(QS. ad-Dukhān:31)
English / Sahih Translation:
From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors. (QS. Ad-Dukhan, ayah 31)

Tafsir jalalayn
from Pharaoh (min Fir`awna, is said to be a substitution for al-`adhbi, on the basis of an implied annexation, that is to say, [min] `adhbi [Fir`awna]; or it is said to be a circumstantial qualifier referring to al-`adhb, `the chastisement'). Truly he was a tyrant of the wanton ones.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
And indeed We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment from Fir`awn; verily, he was arrogant and was of the excessive.
Here Allah reminds them of how He saved them from their humiliation and subjugation at the hands of Fir`awn, when they were forced to do menial tasks.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
(verily, he was arrogant),
means, he was proud and stubborn.
This is like the Ayah;
إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلَ فِى الاٌّرْضِ
Verily, Fir`awn exalted himself in the land, (28;4)
فَاسْتَكْبَرُواْ وَكَانُواْ قَوْماً عَـلِينَ
but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting, (23;46)
He was one of the excessive and held a foolish opinion of himself.
وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَى عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
