Al-Qur'an Surah Az-Zukhruf Verse 40
Az-Zukhruf [43]: 40 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اَفَاَنْتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ اَوْ تَهْدِى الْعُمْيَ وَمَنْ كَانَ فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ (الزخرف : ٤٣)
- afa-anta
- أَفَأَنتَ
- Then can you
- tus'miʿu
- تُسْمِعُ
- cause to hear
- l-ṣuma
- ٱلصُّمَّ
- the deaf
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- tahdī
- تَهْدِى
- guide
- l-ʿum'ya
- ٱلْعُمْىَ
- the blind
- waman
- وَمَن
- and (one) who
- kāna
- كَانَ
- is
- fī
- فِى
- in
- ḍalālin
- ضَلَٰلٍ
- an error
- mubīnin
- مُّبِينٍ
- clear?
Transliteration:
Afa anta tusmi'us summa aw tahdil 'umya wa man kaana fee dalaalim mubeen(QS. az-Zukhruf:40)
English / Sahih Translation:
Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? (QS. Az-Zukhruf, ayah 40)

Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Can you make the deaf to hear, or can you guide the blind or him who is in manifest error?
means, `that is not up to you. All you have to do is convey the Message, but you do not have to guide them. Allah guides whomsoever He wills and sends astray whomsoever He wills, and He is Wise and Just in doing so.'
Allah's Vengeance upon the Enemies of His Messenger will surely come to pass
Allah further says;
فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ
