Al-Qur'an Surah Az-Zukhruf Verse 39

Mufti Taqi Usmani

And (it will be said to such people,) “Since you were wrongdoers, it will never benefit you today that you are sharing the punishment with each other.”

˹It will be said to both,˺ “Since you all did wrong, sharing in the punishment will be of no benefit to you this Day.”[[ From a worldly perspective, many people are comforted when they hear of others who went through similar trials as them. But this will not be the case on Judgment Day. Everyone will be desperate to save themselves from the punishment, regardless of others. ]]

(It) will never/not benefit you today/the day if you caused injustice/oppressed, that you are in the torture sharing.359

Tafsir jalalayn

And it, your wishes or your remorse, will not benefit you, blind ones, this day, given that you did wrong, that is to say, [given that] it has become clear to you that you were wrongdoers, through your idolatry in this world, that you, together with your companions, will be sharing in the chastisement (this constitutes the justification, on the basis of an implied lm [sc. li-annakum ...], for the `lack of benefit'; idh substitutes for al- yawma, `this day').

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

It will profit you not this Day as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers in the punishment.

means, `your being together in the Fire will not help you in the slightest, and you will both partake of the painful punishment.'

Allah says;

أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِي الْعُمْيَ وَمَن كَانَ فِي ضَلَلٍ مُّبِينٍ
