Al-Qur'an Surah Ash-Shuraa Verse 8
Ash-Shuraa [42]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَوْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ لَجَعَلَهُمْ اُمَّةً وَّاحِدَةً وَّلٰكِنْ يُّدْخِلُ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ فِيْ رَحْمَتِهٖۗ وَالظّٰلِمُوْنَ مَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ وَّلِيٍّ وَّلَا نَصِيْرٍ (الشورى : ٤٢)

- He could have made them

- وَلَٰكِن

- He admits
- man
- مَن

- يَشَآءُ
- He wills

- فِى

- raḥmatihi
- رَحْمَتِهِۦۚ
- His Mercy
- wal-ẓālimūna
- وَٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ
- And the wrongdoers
- mā
- مَا
- not
- lahum
- لَهُم
- for them
- min
- مِّن
- any
- waliyyin
- وَلِىٍّ
- protector
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- naṣīrin
- نَصِيرٍ
- any helper
Transliteration:
Wa law shaaa'al laahu laja'alahum ummatanw waahi datanw walaakiny yudkhilumany yashaaa'u fee rahmatih; waz zaalimoona maa lahum minw waliyyinw wa laa naseer(QS. aš-Šūrā:8)
English / Sahih Translation:
And if Allah willed, He could have made them [of] one religion, but He admits whom He wills into His mercy. And the wrongdoers have not any protector or helper. (QS. Ash-Shuraa, ayah 8)

Had Allah willed, He would have made all of them a single group; but He admits whomsoever He wills into His mercy. As for the wrongdoers, they have neither a patron nor a helper.

English Literal
And if God wanted/willed He would have made them one nation, and but He enters in His mercy whom He wills/wants, and the unjust/oppressive (there is) none for them from a guardian/ally and nor (a) victorior/savior .

Tafsir jalalayn
And had God willed, He would have made them one community, in other words, following one religion, and that is Islam; but He admits whomever He will into His mercy, and the evildoers, the disbelievers, have neither guardian nor helper, to ward off the chastisement from them.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَلَوْ شَاء اللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً
And if Allah had willed, He could have made them one nation,
means, either all following guidance or all following misguidance, but He made them all different, and He guides whomsoever He wills to the truth and He sends astray whomsoever He wills, and He has complete wisdom and perfect proof.
Allah says;
وَلَكِن يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَاء فِي رَحْمَتِهِ
وَالظَّالِمُونَ مَا لَهُم مِّن وَلِيٍّ وَلَاا نَصِيرٍ
but He admits whom He wills to His mercy. And the wrongdoers will have neither a protector nor a helper.
