Al-Qur'an Surah Ash-Shuraa Verse 10

Ash-Shuraa [42]: 10 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيْهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَحُكْمُهٗٓ اِلَى اللّٰهِ ۗذٰلِكُمُ اللّٰهُ رَبِّيْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُۖ وَاِلَيْهِ اُنِيْبُ (الشورى : ٤٢)

wamā
وَمَا
And whatever
ikh'talaftum
ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ
you differ
fīhi
فِيهِ
in it

فَحُكْمُهُۥٓ

my Lord

تَوَكَّلْتُ
I put my trust
wa-ilayhi
وَإِلَيْهِ
and to Him
unību
أُنِيبُ
I turn

Transliteration:

Wa makh-talaftum feehi min shai'in fahukmuhooo ilallaah; zaalikumul laahu Rabbee 'alaihi tawakkaltu wa ilaihi uneeb (QS. aš-Šūrā:10)

English / Sahih Translation:

And in anything over which you disagree – its ruling is [to be referred] to Allah. [Say], "That is Allah, my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back." (QS. Ash-Shuraa, ayah 10)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

And (Say O prophet to your opponents,) “Whatever dispute you have in any matter, its judgment lies with Allah. That One is Allah, the Lord of mine; in Him alone I have placed my trust, and to Him alone I turn (in every matter).”

˹Say to the believers, O  Prophet,˺ “Whatever you may differ about, its judgment rests with Allah. That is Allah—my Lord. In Him I put my trust, and to Him I ˹always˺ turn.”

Whatever is the subject of your differences, it is for Allah to judge. Such is Allah, my Lord; in Whom I put my trust, and to Whom I turn,

And whatever may your differences be in a thing, the (ultimate) decision of it rests with Allâh. Such is Allâh, my Lord! On Him alone have I (always) put my trust, and towards Him do I turn (seeking His mercy).

English Literal

And what you differed/disagreed/disputed in it from a thing, so its judgment/rule (is) to God, that one (is) God, my Lord, on Him I relied/depended , and to Him I return/repent/obey .

“The final decision for the matters in which you differ rests with Allah; such is my Lord - I rely on Him; and towards Him do I incline.”

And in whatever thing you disagree, the judgment thereof is in the hands of Allah; such is Allah, my Lord, on Him do I trust and to Him do I turn.

And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah (He is the ruling Judge). (And say O Muhammad SAW to these polytheists:) Such is Allah, my Lord in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn in all of my affairs and in repentance.

Or have they taken protectors besides Him? But Allah is the Protector, and He gives life to the dead, and He is Possessor of power over all things.

And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah. Such is Allah, my Lord in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn in repentance.

In whatever you may differ, [O believers] the verdict thereon rests with God. [Say, therefore], "Such is God, my Lord: in Him I have placed my trust, and to Him I always turn."

Whatever matter you differ about, its judgment rests with God. “Such is God, my Lord, in Whom I trust, and unto Him I repent.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And whatever you may differ, with disbelievers, in, of religion or otherwise, the verdict therein belongs, it will return, to God, on the Day of Resurrection; He will judge between you. Say to them; That then is God, my Lord; in Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn penitently.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ مِن شَيْءٍ فَحُكْمُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ

And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah.

means, in whatever issue you differ. This is general in meaning and applies to all things.

فَحُكْمُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ


the decision thereof is with Allah.

means, He is the Judge of that, according to His Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet.

This is like the Ayah;

فَإِن تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ

(And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger. (4;59)

ذَلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبِّي

Such is Allah, my Lord,

means, (He is) the Judge of all things.

عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ



in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn in repentance.

means, `I refer all matters to Him.
