Al-Qur'an Surah Fussilat Verse 46

Fussilat [41]: 46 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهٖ ۙوَمَنْ اَسَاۤءَ فَعَلَيْهَا ۗوَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِيْدِ ۔ (فصلت : ٤١)

righteous deeds
falinafsihi
فَلِنَفْسِهِۦۖ
then it is for his soul;
waman
وَمَنْ
and whoever
asāa
أَسَآءَ
does evil
faʿalayhā
فَعَلَيْهَاۗ
then it is against it
wamā
وَمَا
And not
rabbuka
رَبُّكَ
(is) your Lord
biẓallāmin
بِظَلَّٰمٍ
unjust
lil'ʿabīdi
لِّلْعَبِيدِ
to His slaves

Transliteration:

Man 'amila salihan falinafshihee wa man asaaa'a fa'alaihaa; wamaa rabbuka bizallaamil lil 'abeed (QS. Fuṣṣilat:46)

English / Sahih Translation:

Whoever does righteousness – it is for his [own] soul; and whoever does evil [does so] against it. And your Lord is not ever unjust to [His] servants. (QS. Fussilat, ayah 46)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

If someone acts righteously, he does so for the benefit of his own soul, and if someone commits evil, he does so against it. Your Lord is not unjust to His servants.

Whoever does good, it is to their own benefit. And whoever does evil, it is to their own loss. Your Lord is never unjust to ˹His˺ creation.

Whoever does good, does so to his own benefit; and whoever does evil, will suffer its evil consequence. Your Lord does no wrong to His servants.

Whoever does good does so for himself, and whoever does wrong bears the guilt thereof. Your Lord does no wrong to His creatures.

He that does right, does it for the good of his own soul, and he that does evil, it shall recoil on him. And your Lord is the least unjust to (His) servants.

English Literal

Who made/did correct/righteous deeds, so for himself, and who did bad/evil/harm so on (for) it, and your Lord (is) not with an unjust/oppressor to the worshippers.

Faridul Haque

Whoever does good deeds, so it is for his own good, and whoever commits evil, so it is for his own harm; and your Lord does not at all oppress the bondmen.

Whoever acts righteously does so for himself; and whoever works evil does so against himself. Your Lord is not unjust to the servants.

Tafsir jalalayn

Whoever acts righteously, it is for [the good of] his own soul, that he acts [thus], and whoever does evil, it is to the detriment thereof, in other words, the harm consequent from his evildoing will [only] be to him. And your Lord is not [at all] a tyrant to His servants, that is, He is not One of injustice, as He, exalted be He, says; Surely God shall not wrong so much as the weight of an atom [Q. 4;40].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Everyone will be requited according to His Deeds

Allah says,

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهِ

Whosoever does righteous good deed, it is for himself;

means, the benefit of which will come to him.

وَمَنْ أَسَاء فَعَلَيْهَا

and whosoever does evil, it is against himself.

means, the consequences of that will come back on him.

وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ



And your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) servants.

means, He only punishes people for their sins, and He does not punish anyone except after establishing proof against him and sending a Messenger to him.
Knowledge of the Hour is with Allah Alone

Then Allah says
