Al-Qur'an Surah Ghafir Verse 77
Ghafir [40]: 77 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
فَاصْبِرْ اِنَّ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ ۚفَاِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِيْ نَعِدُهُمْ اَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَاِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُوْنَ (غافر : ٤٠)
- fa-iṣ'bir
- فَٱصْبِرْ
- So be patient;
- inna
- إِنَّ
- indeed
- waʿda
- وَعْدَ
- (the) Promise
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- ḥaqqun

- they will be returned
Transliteration:
Fasbir inna wa'dal laahi haqq; fa immaa nuriyannak ba'dal lazee na'i duhum aw natawaffayannaka fa ilainaa yurja'oon(QS. Ghāfir:77)
English / Sahih Translation:
So be patient, [O Muhammad]; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned. (QS. Ghafir, ayah 77)

Therefore, be patient. Surely, Allah’s promise is true. Then, (O Prophet,) whether We show you (in your life) a part of the promise We are making to them, or make you die (before they are punished), in any case they have to be returned to Us.

Patiently persevere then. Verily, the promise of Allâh is bound to be fulfilled, whether We let you see (descend on them in your lifetime) a part of that punishment We have promised them, and whether We cause you to die before (you see it, it matters little), to Us they will be brought back.
English Literal
So be patient, that truly God`s promise (is) true/truth , so either We show you/make you understand some of which We promise them, or We make you die, so to Us they be returned.

Tafsir jalalayn
So be patient. Assuredly God's promise, to chastise them, is true. And if We show you (fa-imm contains an assimilated conditional particle in; the m is extra and emphasises the conditional import at the beginning of the verb, while the nn emphasises it at the end) a part of what We promise them, of chastisement, in your lifetime (the response to the conditional has been omitted, in other words [it is something like]; `then so be it!') ... or We take you unto Us [in death], before their chastisement, then [in any case] to Us they will be returned, whereupon We shall chastise them with the most severe punishment (this [last] mentioned response is that of the supplement only).
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
The Command to be Patient and Good News of Victory
Allah commands to His Messenger,
فَاصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ
So be patient, verily, the promise of Allah is true,
Here Allah commands His Messenger to patiently bear the rejection of those who rejected him;`Allah will fulfill His promise to you that you will be victorious and will prevail over your people, and you and those who follow you, will be the successful ones in this world and the Hereafter.'
فَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِي نَعِدُهُمْ
and whether We show you some part of what We have promised them,
means, in this world, and this is what happened, for Allah gave them the joy of humiliating the leaders and nobles (of the Quraysh), who were killed on the day of Badr, then Allah granted them victory over Makkah and the entire Arabian Peninsula during the lifetime of the Prophet.
أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ
or We cause you to die, then still it is to Us they all shall be returned.
means, `and We shall inflict a severe punishment upon them in the Hereafter.'
Then Allah says, consoling (His Prophet)
