English / Sahih Translation:

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason. (QS. Ghafir, ayah 67)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He is the One who created you from dust, then from a drop of semen, then from a clot. After that, He takes you out as an infant. Then, (He makes you grow) so that you reach your full maturity, and, thereafter, become old - and some of you die earlier - and so that you reach the appointed term, and so that you understand.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

He is the One Who created you[[ Your father, Adam.]] from dust, then from a sperm-drop,[[ Nuṭfah refers to the union of male and female gametes (sperm and egg) which results in the zygote after fertilization. ]] then ˹developed you into˺ a clinging clot ˹of blood˺,[[ ’Alaqah, meaning the embryo resembles a leech. ]] then He brings you forth as infants, so that you may reach your prime, and become old—though some of you ˹may˺ die sooner—reaching an appointed time, so perhaps you may understand ˹Allah’s power˺.

meaning, He is the One Who Alone, with no partner or associate, causes you to pass through these different stages, and this happens in accordance with His command, will and decree.

وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّى مِن قَبْلُ

though some among you die before,

means, before being fully formed and emerging to this world; so his mother miscarries him. And there are some who die in infancy or in their youth, or when they are adults but before they reach old age, as Allah says;

لِّنُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ وَنُقِرُّ فِى الاٌّرْحَامِ مَا نَشَأءُ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى

that We may make (it) clear to you. And We cause whom We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term. (22;5)

وَلِتَبْلُغُوا أَجَلً مُّسَمًّى وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

and that you reach an appointed term in order that you may understand.

Ibn Jurayj said,

"In order that you may remember the Resurrection."

Then Allah says
