Al-Qur'an Surah Ghafir Verse 61

Ghafir [40]: 61 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوْا فِيْهِ وَالنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَذُوْ فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُوْنَ (غافر : ٤٠)

Transliteration:

Allaahul lazee ja'ala lakumul laila litqaskunoo feehi wannahaara mubsiraa; innal laaha lazoo fadlin 'alan naasi wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa yashkuroon (QS. Ghāfir:61)

English / Sahih Translation:

It is Allah who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight. Indeed, Allah is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful. (QS. Ghafir, ayah 61)

Allah is the One who made for you the night, so that you may have rest in it, and the day to let you see. Surely, Allah is most kind to people, but most of the people do not offer gratitude.

God (is) who made/created for you the night to be tranquil/settled in it, and the daytime to see (clearly lit) , that truly God (is owner) of grace/favour/blessing on the people, and but most of the people do not thank/be grateful.

Tafsir jalalayn

God it is Who made for you night that you may rest in it, and day for seeing -- the attribution of sight (ibsr) to `day' is figurative, and it is [so attributed] because one is able to see in it. Surely God is a Lord of bounty to mankind, but most people are not thankful, to God, and so they do not believe.

Signs of the Power and Oneness of Allah

Allah the exalted say;

اللَّهُ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوا فِيهِ وَالنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا

Allah, it is He Who has made the night for you that you may rest therein and the day for you to see.

Allah reminds us of His grace towards His creation in that He has given them the night in which they rest and relax from their activities so that they can go back to them for their livelihood during the day. He has given them the day with its light, so that they can undertake their journeys and engage in their business.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ



Truly, Allah is full of bounty to mankind; yet, most of mankind give no thanks.

means, they do not express gratitude for the favors which Allah bestows upon them.

Then Allah says
