Al-Qur'an Surah Ghafir Verse 56

Ghafir [40]: 56 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ يُجَادِلُوْنَ فِيْٓ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطٰنٍ اَتٰىهُمْ ۙاِنْ فِيْ صُدُوْرِهِمْ اِلَّا كِبْرٌ مَّا هُمْ بِبَالِغِيْهِۚ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللّٰهِ ۗاِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيْعُ الْبَصِيْرُ (غافر : ٤٠)

(which) came to them
in

فِى
(is) in
ṣudūrihim
صُدُورِهِمْ
their breasts
illā
إِلَّا
but
kib'run
كِبْرٌ
greatness
مَّا
not
hum
هُم
they
bibālighīhi
بِبَٰلِغِيهِۚ
(can) reach it
fa-is'taʿidh
فَٱسْتَعِذْ
So seek refuge
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِۖ
in Allah
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-samīʿu
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
(is) the All-Hearer
l-baṣīru
ٱلْبَصِيرُ
the All-Seer

Transliteration:

Innal lazeena yujaadi loona feee Aayaatil laahi bighairi sultaanin ataahum in fee sudoorihim illaa kibrum maa hum bibaaligheeh; fasta'iz billaahi innahoo Huwas Samee'ul Baseer (QS. Ghāfir:56)

English / Sahih Translation:

Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without [any] evidence having come to them – there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing. (QS. Ghafir, ayah 56)

Surely, those who quarrel in Allah’s verses without any authority having reached them, there is nothing in their hearts but pride of greatness that they are not (able) to reach. So, seek refuge with Allah. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

Surely those who dispute Allah’s signs—with no proof given to them—have nothing in their hearts but greed for dominance, which they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

Those who argue against the verses of Allah without any proof given to them, there is nothing in their hearts but quest for dominance which they will never attain. So seek refuge with Allah, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

Those who dispute concerning the signs of God, without any authority come to them, in their breasts is only pride, that they shall never attain. So seek thou refuge in God; surely He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.

As for those who, with no authority to do so, dispute God’s messages, there is nothing in their hearts but a thirst for a greatness they will never attain. Seek refuge in God, for He is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.

Verily those who wrangle concerning the revelations of Allah without an authority having come Unto them there is aught in their breasts save greatness Which they shall not reach. Seek refuge thou then in Allah verily He! He is the Hearer, the Beholder.

Those who dispute about the signs of Allah without any authority bestowed on them,- there is nothing in their breasts but (the quest of) greatness, which they shall never attain to; seek refuge, then, in Allah; It is He Who hears and sees (all things).

Verily those who dispute regarding the Signs of Allah without any evidence that might have come to them, nothing but vain pride fills their hearts. Yet they shall never be able to satisfy the pride with which they are puffed up. So seek refuge with Allah. Verily He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

Verily those who argue in the matter of God's revelations, without authority having reached them, have nothing but pride in their hearts, and they will not achieve their end. So take refuge in God: Surely He is all-hearing and all-seeing.

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without any proof having come to them – in their hearts is nothing but a craving for greatness which they shall never achieve; therefore seek the refuge of Allah; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.

Indeed those who dispute the signs of Allah without any authority that may have come to them—there is [an ambition for] greatness in their breasts, which they will never attain. So seek the protection of Allah; indeed, He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.

Those who dispute concerning the signs and Revelations of God without any authority that has reached them, (do so because) in their bosoms is a craving for superiority, which they will not attain. But take refuge in God (from their schemes). Surely He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who dispute regarding the Messages of Allâh without any authoritative proof having come to them (from God in their support), there is nothing in their minds but (an ambition for) greatness to which (goal) they can never attain. So (do not bother about them rather) go on seeking refuge in Allâh (against their mischiefs). Surely, He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

English Literal

That truly those who argue/dispute in God`s evidences/verses/signs without a proof/evidence/authority (that) came to them, that (E) in the chests (innermosts is) except arrogance/great sin/disbelief and sharing , they are not with reaching it, so seek protection by God, that He truly is the hearing/listening, the seeing/knowing .

Faridul Haque

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without any proof having come to them - in their hearts is nothing but a craving for greatness which they shall never achieve; therefore seek the refuge of Allah; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.

Hamid S. Aziz

Surely those who dispute about the revelations (signs, communications) of Allah without any authority that has come to them, there is naught in their breasts but (a desire) to become great which they shall never attain. Therefore, seek refuge in Allah, surely He, only He is the Hearer, the Seer.

Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad SAW) as a Messenger of Allah and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allah has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allah (O Muhammad SAW from the arrogants). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

So be patient; surely the promise of Allah is true; and ask protection for thy sin and celebrate the praise of thy Lord in the evening and the morning.

Surely (as for) those who dispute about the communications of Allah without any authority that has come to them, there is naught in their breasts but (a desire) to become great which they shall never attain to; Therefore seek refuge in Allah, surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Lo! those who wrangle concerning the revelations of Allah without a warrant having come unto them, there is naught else in their breasts save pride which they will never attain. So take thou refuge in Allah. Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer.

Those who dispute the revelations of God without having received any authority do so because of their arrogance, but their arrogance cannot bring them any success. Seek protection from God for He is All-hearing and All-aware.

(As for) those who dispute the verses of Allah without authority having been given to them, there is nothing in their chests but pride; that, they shall never attain. Therefore seek refuge in Allah, surely, He is the Hearer, the Seer.

Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride. They will never have it. So seek refuge in Allah. Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

As for those who, with no authority to do so, dispute God's messages, there is nothing in their hearts but a feeling of greatness which they will never attain. Seek refuge in God, for He is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.

Talal Itani

Those who dispute regarding God’s revelations without any authority having come to them—there is nothing in their hearts but the feeling of greatness, which they will never attain. So seek refuge in God; for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

Tafsir jalalayn

Truly those who dispute the signs of God, the Qur'n, without any warrant, any evidence, that has come to them -- there is only vanity in their breasts, [only] arrogance and an [evil] desire to get the better of you, which they will never attain [and satisfy]. So seek refuge with God, from their evil. Surely He is the Hearer, of their sayings, the Seer, of their state.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي ايَاتِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَانٍ أَتَاهُمْ

Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat of Allah, without any authority having come to them,

means, they try to refute the truth with falsehood, and to refute sound evidence with dubious arguments, having no proof or evidence from Allah.

إِن فِي صُدُورِهِمْ إِلاَّ كِبْرٌ مَّا هُم بِبَالِغِيهِ

there is nothing else in their breasts except pride. They will never have it.

means, they are too proud to follow the truth and submit to the one who has brought it. But their attempts to suppress the truth and elevate falsehood will fail; the truth will prevail and their words and aspirations will be defeated.

فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ

So seek refuge in Allah.

means, from being like these people,

or seek refuge with Him from being like these people who dispute about the Ayat of Allah without any authority having come to them.

إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ



Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer
