Al-Qur'an Surah Ghafir Verse 50
Ghafir [40]: 50 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
قَالُوْٓا اَوَلَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيْكُمْ رُسُلُكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ ۗقَالُوْا بَلٰىۗ قَالُوْا فَادْعُوْا ۚوَمَا دُعٰۤؤُا الْكٰفِرِيْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ ࣖ (غافر : ٤٠)

- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِۖ
- with clear proofs?"

- fa-id'ʿū
- فَٱدْعُوا۟ۗ
- "Then call

- (is) the call

- ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
- (of) the disbelievers
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- fī

- ḍalālin
- ضَلَٰلٍ
- error"
Transliteration:
Qaalooo awalam taku taateekum Rusulukum bilbaiyinaati qaaloo balaa' qaaloo fad'oo; wa maa du'aaa'ul kaafireena illaa fee dalaal(QS. Ghāfir:50)
English / Sahih Translation:
They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error [i.e., futility]." (QS. Ghafir, ayah 50)
Mufti Taqi Usmani
They will say, “Had your messengers not been coming to you with open signs?” They will say, “Of course, (they had come).” They (the keepers) will say, “Then, keep praying” - but praying of disbelievers (in the Hereafter) is only in vain.

The keepers will reply, “Did your messengers not ˹constantly˺ come to you with clear proofs?” They will say, “Yes ˹they did˺.” The keepers will say, “Then pray! Though the prayer of the disbelievers is only in vain.”

The keepers of Hell will ask: “Did your Messengers not come to you with Clear Signs?” They will say: “Yes (they did).” The keepers of Hell will say: “Then you yourselves should call (upon the Lord). And the call of the unbelievers will end in vain.”

They will say: "Did not your apostles come to you with clear proofs?" They will answer: "Indeed, they did." "Then pray," will (the warders) say. But the praying of unbelievers will be all in vain.

They said, “Is it not that your Noble Messengers used to come to you with clear signs?” They said, “Why not, surely yes!” They said, “Then you yourselves pray”; and the prayer of the disbelievers is nothing but astray.

They will say, ‘Had not your apostles brought you manifest proofs?’ They will say, ‘Yes.’ They will say, ‘Then invoke [Him] yourselves.’ But the invocations of the faithless only go awry.

(The keepers) will say: "Did not the Messengers sent to you come to you with clear proofs (of the truth)?" They will say, "Yes, indeed." (The keepers then) will say: "Then call (as you like)!" But the call of unbelievers is bound to be in vain.

These (Keepers) will say, `Did not your Messengers (of God) come to you with clear signs?´ They will answer, `Yes indeed!´ They (the Keepers of Gehenna) will say, `Then call (yourselves and your false deities).´ But the call of the disbelievers will be of no avail.
English Literal
They said: "Were your messengers not being coming to you with the evidences?" They said: "Yes/certainly." They said: "So call, and the disbelievers` call/prayer (is) not except in misguidance."

but they will say, "Did not your messengers come to you with clear signs?" They will say, "Yes." The keepers will say, "Then pray [for help] yourselves." But the prayer of those who deny the truth is of no avail.

They will say, “Did not your messengers come to you with clear signs?” They will say, “Yes.” They will say, “Then pray, but the prayers of the disbelievers will always be in vain.”
Tafsir jalalayn
They, that is, the keepers, will say, mockingly; `Did not your messengers bring you clear signs?', manifest miracles? They will say, `Yes indeed' -- in other words, they disbelieved them. They will say, `Then supplicate [God]!', yourselves, for we do not intercede for disbelievers. God, exalted be He, says; but the supplications of the disbelievers can only be misguided, void.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ
Did there not come to you, your Messengers with (clear) evidences?
meaning, was not proof established in the world on the lips of the Messengers
قَالُوا بَلَى
قَالُوا فَادْعُوا
They will say;"Yes."
They will reply;"Then call (as you like)!..."
means, you are on your own. We will not pray for you or listen to you; we do not want you to be saved and we have nothing to do with you. Moreover, we tell you that it is all the same whether you offer supplication or not, because Allah will not respond and He will not lighten the torment for you.'
They will say;
وَمَا دُعَاء الْكَافِرِينَ إِلاَّ فِي ضَلَلٍ
And the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but in vain!
meaning, it will not be accepted or responded to
