Al-Qur'an Surah Ghafir Verse 48

Those who were arrogant will say, “We all are in it. Allah has already passed the judgment between (His) servants.

The arrogant will answer: "All of us are in it. Surely God has judged between His creatures."

Those who were proud will say, “We are all in the fire – indeed Allah has already passed the judgement among the bondmen.”

The oppressors will say, ‘We are all in it [together]; Allah has judged between [His] servants.’

Those who were arrogant (and oppressed others) will say: "We are all together in this (Fire)! God has indeed judged between the servants (and all must face a reckoning and meet their deserts)."

Those who sought to be great will say, `Now we are all (adjudged to suffer) in it. Verily, Allâh has already passed (His) true judgment between (His) servants.´

English Literal

Those who became arrogant said: "We (E) all/each (are) in it, that truly God had judged/ruled between the worshippers/slaves ."

Those who were proud will say, “We are all in the fire - indeed Allah has already passed the judgement among the bondmen.”

And when they contend one with another in the Fire, the weak saying to those who were proud: Surely we were your followers; will you then avert from us a portion of the Fire?

Those who were arrogant will say, “We are all in it; God has judged between the servants.”

Tafsir jalalayn

Those who were arrogant will say, `Indeed we are all [together] in it. God has indeed judged [fairly] between His servants', admitting believers into Paradise and disbelievers into the Fire.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا إِنَّا كُلٌّ فِيهَا

Those who were arrogant will say;"We are all (together) in this (Fire)!..."

meaning, `we will not bear any part of your burden for you; our own punishment is enough for us to bear.'

إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ حَكَمَ بَيْنَ الْعِبَادِ



Verily, Allah has judged (His) servants!

means, `He has shared out the punishment among us according to what each of us deserves'.

This is like the Ayah;

قَالَ لِكُلٍّ ضِعْفٌ وَلَـكِن لاَّ تَعْلَمُونَ

He will say;"For each one there is double (torment), but you know not." (7;38)

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ فِي النَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ يُخَفِّفْ عَنَّا يَوْمًا مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ
