Surah Ghafir - Page: 4

(The Forgiver)

31

مِثْلَ دَأْبِ قَوْمِ نُوْحٍ وَّعَادٍ وَّثَمُوْدَ وَالَّذِيْنَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۗوَمَا اللّٰهُ يُرِيْدُ ظُلْمًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ٣١

Like
dabi
دَأْبِ
(the) plight
qawmi
قَوْمِ
(of the) people
nūḥin
نُوحٍ
(of) Nuh
waʿādin
وَعَادٍ
and Aad
wathamūda
وَثَمُودَ
and Thamud
wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those
min
مِنۢ
after them
baʿdihim
بَعْدِهِمْۚ
after them
wamā
وَمَا
And Allah (does) not
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah (does) not
yurīdu
يُرِيدُ
want
ẓul'man
ظُلْمًا
injustice
lil'ʿibādi
لِّلْعِبَادِ
for (His) slaves
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 31)
Tafsir
32

وَيٰقَوْمِ اِنِّيْٓ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَوْمَ التَّنَادِۙ ٣٢

wayāqawmi
وَيَٰقَوْمِ
And O my people!
innī
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed I
akhāfu
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
for you
yawma
يَوْمَ
(the) Day
l-tanādi
ٱلتَّنَادِ
(of) Calling
And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling – (QS. [40] Ghafir: 32)
Tafsir
33

يَوْمَ تُوَلُّوْنَ مُدْبِرِيْنَۚ مَا لَكُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍۚ وَمَنْ يُّضْلِلِ اللّٰهُ فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ هَادٍ ٣٣

yawma
يَوْمَ
A Day
tuwallūna
تُوَلُّونَ
you will turn back
mud'birīna
مُدْبِرِينَ
fleeing
مَا
not
lakum
لَكُم
for you
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
min
مِنْ
any
ʿāṣimin
عَاصِمٍۗ
protector
waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yuḍ'lili
يُضْلِلِ
Allah lets go astray
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah lets go astray
famā
فَمَا
then not
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
min
مِنْ
any
hādin
هَادٍ
guide
The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah sends astray – there is not for him any guide. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 33)
Tafsir
34

وَلَقَدْ جَاۤءَكُمْ يُوْسُفُ مِنْ قَبْلُ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَمَا زِلْتُمْ فِيْ شَكٍّ مِّمَّا جَاۤءَكُمْ بِهٖ ۗحَتّٰىٓ اِذَا هَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَنْ يَّبْعَثَ اللّٰهُ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ رَسُوْلًا ۗ كَذٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ مُّرْتَابٌۙ ٣٤

walaqad
وَلَقَدْ
And indeed
jāakum
جَآءَكُمْ
came to you
yūsufu
يُوسُفُ
Yusuf
min
مِن
before
qablu
قَبْلُ
before
bil-bayināti
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
with clear proofs
famā
فَمَا
but not
zil'tum
زِلْتُمْ
you ceased
فِى
in
shakkin
شَكٍّ
doubt
mimmā
مِّمَّا
about what
jāakum
جَآءَكُم
he brought to you
bihi
بِهِۦۖ
[with it]
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰٓ
until
idhā
إِذَا
when
halaka
هَلَكَ
he died
qul'tum
قُلْتُمْ
you said
lan
لَن
"Never
yabʿatha
يَبْعَثَ
will Allah raise
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
will Allah raise
min
مِنۢ
after him
baʿdihi
بَعْدِهِۦ
after him
rasūlan
رَسُولًاۚ
a Messenger"
kadhālika
كَذَٰلِكَ
Thus
yuḍillu
يُضِلُّ
Allah lets go astray
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah lets go astray
man
مَنْ
who
huwa
هُوَ
[he]
mus'rifun
مُسْرِفٌ
(is) a transgressor
mur'tābun
مُّرْتَابٌ
a doubter"
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic." (QS. [40] Ghafir: 34)
Tafsir
35

ۨالَّذِيْنَ يُجَادِلُوْنَ فِيْٓ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطٰنٍ اَتٰىهُمْۗ كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ وَعِنْدَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا ۗ كَذٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ قَلْبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ ٣٥

alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
yujādilūna
يُجَٰدِلُونَ
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
āyāti
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
bighayri
بِغَيْرِ
without
sul'ṭānin
سُلْطَٰنٍ
any authority
atāhum
أَتَىٰهُمْۖ
(having) come to them
kabura
كَبُرَ
(it) is greatly
maqtan
مَقْتًا
(in) hateful
ʿinda
عِندَ
near Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
near Allah
waʿinda
وَعِندَ
and near
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ
who believe
kadhālika
كَذَٰلِكَ
Thus
yaṭbaʿu
يَطْبَعُ
Allah sets a seal
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah sets a seal
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
kulli
كُلِّ
every
qalbi
قَلْبِ
heart
mutakabbirin
مُتَكَبِّرٍ
(of) an arrogant
jabbārin
جَبَّارٍ
tyrant"
Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them – great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 35)
Tafsir
36

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يٰهَامٰنُ ابْنِ لِيْ صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّيْٓ اَبْلُغُ الْاَسْبَابَۙ ٣٦

waqāla
وَقَالَ
And said
fir'ʿawnu
فِرْعَوْنُ
Firaun
yāhāmānu
يَٰهَٰمَٰنُ
"O Haman!
ib'ni
ٱبْنِ
Construct
لِى
for me
ṣarḥan
صَرْحًا
a tower
laʿallī
لَّعَلِّىٓ
that I may
ablughu
أَبْلُغُ
reach
l-asbāba
ٱلْأَسْبَٰبَ
the ways
And Pharaoh said, "O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways – (QS. [40] Ghafir: 36)
Tafsir
37

اَسْبَابَ السَّمٰوٰتِ فَاَطَّلِعَ اِلٰٓى اِلٰهِ مُوْسٰى وَاِنِّيْ لَاَظُنُّهٗ كَاذِبًا ۗوَكَذٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوْۤءُ عَمَلِهٖ وَصُدَّ عَنِ السَّبِيْلِ ۗوَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ تَبَابٍ ࣖ ٣٧

asbāba
أَسْبَٰبَ
(The) ways
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
(to) the heavens
fa-aṭṭaliʿa
فَأَطَّلِعَ
so I may look
ilā
إِلَىٰٓ
at
ilāhi
إِلَٰهِ
(the) God
mūsā
مُوسَىٰ
(of) Musa;
wa-innī
وَإِنِّى
and indeed I
la-aẓunnuhu
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ
[I] surely think him
kādhiban
كَٰذِبًاۚ
(to be) a liar"
wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
zuyyina
زُيِّنَ
was made fair-seeming
lifir'ʿawna
لِفِرْعَوْنَ
to Firaun
sūu
سُوٓءُ
(the) evil
ʿamalihi
عَمَلِهِۦ
(of) his deed
waṣudda
وَصُدَّ
and he was averted
ʿani
عَنِ
from
l-sabīli
ٱلسَّبِيلِۚ
the way
wamā
وَمَا
And not
kaydu
كَيْدُ
(was the) plot
fir'ʿawna
فِرْعَوْنَ
(of) Firaun
illā
إِلَّا
except
فِى
in
tabābin
تَبَابٍ
ruin
The ways into the heavens – so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 37)
Tafsir
38

وَقَالَ الَّذِيْٓ اٰمَنَ يٰقَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوْنِ اَهْدِكُمْ سَبِيْلَ الرَّشَادِۚ ٣٨

waqāla
وَقَالَ
And said
alladhī
ٱلَّذِىٓ
the one who
āmana
ءَامَنَ
believed
yāqawmi
يَٰقَوْمِ
"O my people!
ittabiʿūni
ٱتَّبِعُونِ
Follow me;
ahdikum
أَهْدِكُمْ
I will guide you
sabīla
سَبِيلَ
(to the) way
l-rashādi
ٱلرَّشَادِ
the right
And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the way of right conduct. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 38)
Tafsir
39

يٰقَوْمِ اِنَّمَا هٰذِهِ الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا مَتَاعٌ ۖوَّاِنَّ الْاٰخِرَةَ هِيَ دَارُ الْقَرَارِ ٣٩

yāqawmi
يَٰقَوْمِ
O my people!
innamā
إِنَّمَا
Only
hādhihi
هَٰذِهِ
this
l-ḥayatu
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
matāʿun
مَتَٰعٌ
(is) enjoyment
wa-inna
وَإِنَّ
and indeed
l-ākhirata
ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ
the Hereafter -
hiya
هِىَ
it
dāru
دَارُ
(is the) home
l-qarāri
ٱلْقَرَارِ
(of) settlement
O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter – that is the home of [permanent] settlement. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 39)
Tafsir
40

مَنْ عَمِلَ سَيِّئَةً فَلَا يُجْزٰىٓ اِلَّا مِثْلَهَاۚ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّنْ ذَكَرٍ اَوْ اُنْثٰى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ يَدْخُلُوْنَ الْجَنَّةَ يُرْزَقُوْنَ فِيْهَا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ٤٠

man
مَنْ
Whoever
ʿamila
عَمِلَ
does
sayyi-atan
سَيِّئَةً
an evil
falā
فَلَا
then not
yuj'zā
يُجْزَىٰٓ
he will be recompensed
illā
إِلَّا
but
mith'lahā
مِثْلَهَاۖ
(the) like thereof;
waman
وَمَنْ
and whoever
ʿamila
عَمِلَ
does
ṣāliḥan
صَٰلِحًا
righteousness
min
مِّن
whether
dhakarin
ذَكَرٍ
male
aw
أَوْ
or
unthā
أُنثَىٰ
female
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
mu'minun
مُؤْمِنٌ
(is) a believer
fa-ulāika
فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
then those
yadkhulūna
يَدْخُلُونَ
will enter
l-janata
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
Paradise
yur'zaqūna
يُرْزَقُونَ
they will be given provision
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
bighayri
بِغَيْرِ
without
ḥisābin
حِسَابٍ
account
Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer – those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 40)
