۞ اَوَلَمْ يَسِيْرُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِيْنَ كَانُوْا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۗ كَانُوْا هُمْ اَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَّاٰثَارًا فِى الْاَرْضِ فَاَخَذَهُمُ اللّٰهُ بِذُنُوْبِهِمْ ۗوَمَا كَانَ لَهُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ وَّاقٍ ٢١
- awalam
- أَوَلَمْ
- Do not
- yasīrū
- يَسِيرُوا۟
- they travel
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the earth
- fayanẓurū
- فَيَنظُرُوا۟
- and see
- kayfa
- كَيْفَ
- how
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- ʿāqibatu
- عَٰقِبَةُ
- (the) end
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (of) those who
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- were
- min
- مِن
- before them?
- qablihim
- قَبْلِهِمْۚ
- before them?
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- They were
- hum
- هُمْ
- [they]
- ashadda
- أَشَدَّ
- superior
- min'hum
- مِنْهُمْ
- to them
- quwwatan
- قُوَّةً
- (in) strength
- waāthāran
- وَءَاثَارًا
- and (in) impressions
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the land
- fa-akhadhahumu
- فَأَخَذَهُمُ
- but Allah seized them
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- but Allah seized them
- bidhunūbihim
- بِذُنُوبِهِمْ
- for their sins
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- lahum
- لَهُم
- for them
- mina
- مِّنَ
- against
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- min
- مِن
- any
- wāqin
- وَاقٍ
- protector
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 21)Tafsir
ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانَتْ تَّأْتِيْهِمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَكَفَرُوْا فَاَخَذَهُمُ اللّٰهُ ۗاِنَّهٗ قَوِيٌّ شَدِيْدُ الْعِقَابِ ٢٢
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That
- bi-annahum
- بِأَنَّهُمْ
- (was) because [they]
- kānat
- كَانَت
- used to come to them
- tatīhim
- تَّأْتِيهِمْ
- used to come to them
- rusuluhum
- رُسُلُهُم
- their Messengers
- bil-bayināti
- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
- with clear proofs
- fakafarū
- فَكَفَرُوا۟
- but they disbelieved
- fa-akhadhahumu
- فَأَخَذَهُمُ
- So Allah seized them
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُۚ
- So Allah seized them
- innahu
- إِنَّهُۥ
- Indeed, He
- qawiyyun
- قَوِىٌّ
- (is) All-Strong
- shadīdu
- شَدِيدُ
- severe
- l-ʿiqābi
- ٱلْعِقَابِ
- (in) punishment
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 22)Tafsir
وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا مُوسٰى بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَسُلْطٰنٍ مُّبِيْنٍۙ ٢٣
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And certainly
- arsalnā
- أَرْسَلْنَا
- We sent
- mūsā
- مُوسَىٰ
- Musa
- biāyātinā
- بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
- with Our Signs
- wasul'ṭānin
- وَسُلْطَٰنٍ
- and an authority
- mubīnin
- مُّبِينٍ
- clear
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority (QS. [40] Ghafir: 23)Tafsir
اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَامٰنَ وَقَارُوْنَ فَقَالُوْا سٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ ٢٤
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- To
- fir'ʿawna
- فِرْعَوْنَ
- Firaun
- wahāmāna
- وَهَٰمَٰنَ
- Haman
- waqārūna
- وَقَٰرُونَ
- and Qarun
- faqālū
- فَقَالُوا۟
- but they said
- sāḥirun
- سَٰحِرٌ
- "A magician
- kadhābun
- كَذَّابٌ
- a liar"
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun, but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar." (QS. [40] Ghafir: 24)Tafsir
فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ مِنْ عِنْدِنَا قَالُوا اقْتُلُوْٓا اَبْنَاۤءَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَهٗ وَاسْتَحْيُوْا نِسَاۤءَهُمْ ۗوَمَا كَيْدُ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ ٢٥
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- Then when
- jāahum
- جَآءَهُم
- he brought to them
- bil-ḥaqi
- بِٱلْحَقِّ
- the truth
- min
- مِنْ
- from
- ʿindinā
- عِندِنَا
- Us
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- they said
- uq'tulū
- ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟
- "Kill
- abnāa
- أَبْنَآءَ
- (the) sons
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (of) those who
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe
- maʿahu
- مَعَهُۥ
- with him
- wa-is'taḥyū
- وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟
- and let live
- nisāahum
- نِسَآءَهُمْۚ
- their women"
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- kaydu
- كَيْدُ
- (is the) plot
- l-kāfirīna
- ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
- (of) the disbelievers
- illā
- إِلَّا
- but
- fī
- فِى
- in
- ḍalālin
- ضَلَٰلٍ
- error
And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 25)Tafsir
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ذَرُوْنِيْٓ اَقْتُلْ مُوْسٰى وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهٗ ۚاِنِّيْٓ اَخَافُ اَنْ يُّبَدِّلَ دِيْنَكُمْ اَوْ اَنْ يُّظْهِرَ فِى الْاَرْضِ الْفَسَادَ ٢٦
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- fir'ʿawnu
- فِرْعَوْنُ
- Firaun
- dharūnī
- ذَرُونِىٓ
- "Leave me
- aqtul
- أَقْتُلْ
- (so that) I kill
- mūsā
- مُوسَىٰ
- Musa
- walyadʿu
- وَلْيَدْعُ
- and let him call
- rabbahu
- رَبَّهُۥٓۖ
- his Lord
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- Indeed I
- akhāfu
- أَخَافُ
- [I] fear
- an
- أَن
- that
- yubaddila
- يُبَدِّلَ
- he will change
- dīnakum
- دِينَكُمْ
- your religion
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- an
- أَن
- that
- yuẓ'hira
- يُظْهِرَ
- he may cause to appear
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the land
- l-fasāda
- ٱلْفَسَادَ
- the corruption"
And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land." (QS. [40] Ghafir: 26)Tafsir
وَقَالَ مُوْسٰىٓ اِنِّيْ عُذْتُ بِرَبِّيْ وَرَبِّكُمْ مِّنْ كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ ࣖ ٢٧
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- mūsā
- مُوسَىٰٓ
- Musa
- innī
- إِنِّى
- "Indeed I
- ʿudh'tu
- عُذْتُ
- [I] seek refuge
- birabbī
- بِرَبِّى
- in my Lord
- warabbikum
- وَرَبِّكُم
- and your Lord
- min
- مِّن
- from
- kulli
- كُلِّ
- every
- mutakabbirin
- مُتَكَبِّرٍ
- arrogant one
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- yu'minu
- يُؤْمِنُ
- who believes
- biyawmi
- بِيَوْمِ
- (in the) Day
- l-ḥisābi
- ٱلْحِسَابِ
- (of) the Account"
But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account." (QS. [40] Ghafir: 27)Tafsir
وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤْمِنٌۖ مِّنْ اٰلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ اِيْمَانَهٗٓ اَتَقْتُلُوْنَ رَجُلًا اَنْ يَّقُوْلَ رَبِّيَ اللّٰهُ وَقَدْ جَاۤءَكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْ ۗوَاِنْ يَّكُ كَاذِبًا فَعَلَيْهِ كَذِبُهٗ ۚوَاِنْ يَّكُ صَادِقًا يُّصِبْكُمْ بَعْضُ الَّذِيْ يَعِدُكُمْ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِيْ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ ٢٨
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- rajulun
- رَجُلٌ
- a man
- mu'minun
- مُّؤْمِنٌ
- believing
- min
- مِّنْ
- from
- āli
- ءَالِ
- (the) family
- fir'ʿawna
- فِرْعَوْنَ
- (of) Firaun
- yaktumu
- يَكْتُمُ
- who conceal(ed)
- īmānahu
- إِيمَٰنَهُۥٓ
- his faith
- ataqtulūna
- أَتَقْتُلُونَ
- "Will you kill
- rajulan
- رَجُلًا
- a man
- an
- أَن
- because
- yaqūla
- يَقُولَ
- he says
- rabbiya
- رَبِّىَ
- "My Lord
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- (is) Allah"
- waqad
- وَقَدْ
- and indeed
- jāakum
- جَآءَكُم
- he has brought you
- bil-bayināti
- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
- clear proofs
- min
- مِن
- from
- rabbikum
- رَّبِّكُمْۖ
- your Lord?
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- And if
- yaku
- يَكُ
- he is
- kādhiban
- كَٰذِبًا
- a liar
- faʿalayhi
- فَعَلَيْهِ
- then upon him
- kadhibuhu
- كَذِبُهُۥۖ
- (is) his lie;
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- and if
- yaku
- يَكُ
- he is
- ṣādiqan
- صَادِقًا
- truthful
- yuṣib'kum
- يُصِبْكُم
- (there) will strike you
- baʿḍu
- بَعْضُ
- some (of)
- alladhī
- ٱلَّذِى
- (that) which
- yaʿidukum
- يَعِدُكُمْۖ
- he threatens you
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- lā
- لَا
- (does) not
- yahdī
- يَهْدِى
- guide
- man
- مَنْ
- (one) who
- huwa
- هُوَ
- [he]
- mus'rifun
- مُسْرِفٌ
- (is) a transgressor
- kadhābun
- كَذَّابٌ
- a liar
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar. (QS. [40] Ghafir: 28)Tafsir
يٰقَوْمِ لَكُمُ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ ظَاهِرِيْنَ فِى الْاَرْضِۖ فَمَنْ يَّنْصُرُنَا مِنْۢ بَأْسِ اللّٰهِ اِنْ جَاۤءَنَا ۗقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ مَآ اُرِيْكُمْ اِلَّا مَآ اَرٰى وَمَآ اَهْدِيْكُمْ اِلَّا سَبِيْلَ الرَّشَادِ ٢٩
- yāqawmi
- يَٰقَوْمِ
- O my people!
- lakumu
- لَكُمُ
- For you
- l-mul'ku
- ٱلْمُلْكُ
- (is) the kingdom
- l-yawma
- ٱلْيَوْمَ
- today
- ẓāhirīna
- ظَٰهِرِينَ
- dominant
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the land
- faman
- فَمَن
- but who
- yanṣurunā
- يَنصُرُنَا
- will help us
- min
- مِنۢ
- from
- basi
- بَأْسِ
- (the) punishment
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- in
- إِن
- if
- jāanā
- جَآءَنَاۚ
- it came to us"
- qāla
- قَالَ
- Said
- fir'ʿawnu
- فِرْعَوْنُ
- Firaun
- mā
- مَآ
- "Not
- urīkum
- أُرِيكُمْ
- I show you
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- mā
- مَآ
- what
- arā
- أَرَىٰ
- I see
- wamā
- وَمَآ
- and not
- ahdīkum
- أَهْدِيكُمْ
- I guide you
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- sabīla
- سَبِيلَ
- (to the) path
- l-rashādi
- ٱلرَّشَادِ
- the right"
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct." (QS. [40] Ghafir: 29)Tafsir
وَقَالَ الَّذِيْٓ اٰمَنَ يٰقَوْمِ اِنِّيْٓ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ الْاَحْزَابِۙ ٣٠
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- alladhī
- ٱلَّذِىٓ
- (he) who
- āmana
- ءَامَنَ
- believed
- yāqawmi
- يَٰقَوْمِ
- "O my people!
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- Indeed I
- akhāfu
- أَخَافُ
- [I] fear
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُم
- for you
- mith'la
- مِّثْلَ
- like
- yawmi
- يَوْمِ
- (the) day
- l-aḥzābi
- ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
- (of) the companies
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies – (QS. [40] Ghafir: 30)Tafsir
