An-Nisa [4]: 26 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

يُرِيْدُ اللّٰهُ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ سُنَنَ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَيَتُوْبَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ حَكِيْمٌ (النساء : ٤)

Transliteration:

Yureedul laahu liyubai yina lakum wa yahdiyakum sunanal lazeena min qablikum wa yatooba 'alaikum; wallaahu 'Aleemun Hakeem (QS. an-Nisāʾ:26)

English / Sahih Translation:

Allah wants to make clear to you [the lawful from the unlawful] and guide you to the [good] practices of those before you and to accept your repentance. And Allah is Knowing and Wise. (QS. An-Nisa, ayah 26)

Allah intends (through this Qur’ān) to explain to you (the rules) and to guide you to the ways of those (prophets who passed) before you, and to turn graciously towards you. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

English Literal

God wants to clarify/show/explain to you and (He) guides you (to) those who (were) before you`s laws/ways, and He forgives on you, and God (is) knowledgeable, wise/judicious.

And whoever among you cannot afford to marry free believing women, (let him marry) such of your believing maidens as your right hands possess. And Allah knows best your faith -- you are (sprung) the one from the other. So marry them with the permission of their masters, and give them their dowries justly, they being caste, not fornicating, nor receiving paramours; then if they are guilty of adultery when they are taken in marriage, they shall suffer half the punishment for free married women. This is for him among you who fears falling into evil. And that you abstain is better for you. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Tafsir jalalayn

God desires to make clear to you, the laws of your religion and what is in your best interests, and to guide you in the ways, the paths, of those, prophets, before you, in the way of what is lawful and what is unlawful, so that you might follow them, and to turn [in forgiveness] towards you, bringing you back from the disobedience which you practised, to obedience to Him; God is Knowing, of you, Wise, in what He has ordained for you.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah says;

يُرِيدُ اللّهُ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ

Allah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you,

Allah explains to the believers what He has allowed and prohibited for them in this and other Surahs.

وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ سُنَنَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ

And to show you the ways of those before you,

meaning their righteous ways and how to adhere to the commandments that He likes and is pleased with.

وَيَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ

and accept your repentance.

from sin and error

وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ




and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

in His commands, decrees, actions and statements.
