Aha! There you are, pleading for them in the life of this world! But who will plead for them with Allah on the Day of Resurrection, or will be their defender?

Tafsir jalalayn

Ah! There you are (addressing Tu`ma's clan) you have contested, you have disputed, on their behalf, that is to say, on behalf of Tu`ma and his men (a variant reading has `anhu, `on his behalf') in the life of this world; but who will contest against God on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection, if He were to punish them, or who will be a guardian for them, and take charge of their affair or defend them? In other words, no one will do such a thing.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

هَاأَنتُمْ هَـوُلاء جَادَلْتُمْ عَنْهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا

Lo! You are those who have argued for them in the life of this world,

meaning, suppose these people gain the verdict from the rulers in their favor in this life, since the rulers judge according to what is apparent to them.

فَمَن يُجَادِلُ اللّهَ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

but who will argue for them on the Day of Resurrection against Allah,

However, what will their condition be on the Day of Resurrection before Allah, Who knows the secret and what is even more hidden Who will be his advocate on that Day Verily, none will support them that Day.

Hence, Allah's statement,

أَم مَّن يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلً

or who will then be their defender!
