Al-Qur'an Surah Az-Zumar Verse 59

Az-Zumar [39]: 59 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

بَلٰى قَدْ جَاۤءَتْكَ اٰيٰتِيْ فَكَذَّبْتَ بِهَا وَاسْتَكْبَرْتَ وَكُنْتَ مِنَ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ (الزمر : ٣٩)

بَلَىٰ
"Nay
qad
قَدْ
verily
jāatka
جَآءَتْكَ
came to you
āyātī
ءَايَٰتِى
My Verses
fakadhabta
فَكَذَّبْتَ
but you denied
bihā
بِهَا
them
wa-is'takbarta
وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتَ
and were arrogant
wakunta
وَكُنتَ
and you were
mina
مِنَ
among
l-kāfirīna
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the disbelievers

Transliteration:

Balaa qad jaaa'atka Asyaatee fakazzabta bihaa wastak barta wa kunta minal kaafireen (QS. az-Zumar:59)

English / Sahih Translation:

But yes, there had come to you My verses, but you denied them and were arrogant, and you were among the disbelievers. (QS. Az-Zumar, ayah 59)

No! My verses had reached you, but you called them untrue, and waxed proud, and became of those who disbelieved.

Not at all! My revelations had already come to you, but you rejected them, acted arrogantly, and were one of the disbelievers.”

Yes indeed! But My Signs came to you and you rejected them as lies, and waxed arrogant and were among those who disbelieved.

Why, My revelations had come to you, but you denied them and were filled with pride, and were among the disbelievers.

[They will be told,] ‘Yes, My signs certainly came to you, but you denied them and acted arrogantly and you were among the faithless.’

(But God will answer): "No, indeed! My Revelations and signs (of the truth) did come to you, but you denied them, and grew in arrogance (so as not to confirm them), and you proved yourself to be one of the unbelievers."

(God will say,) `No! this cannot be. There did come to you My Messages but you cried them lies and you behaved arrogantly and were of the disbelievers.´

English Literal

Yes/certainly, My evidences/verses came to you, so you lied/denied/falsified with it, and you became arrogant, and you were from the disbelievers.

It will be said to him, “Surely yes, why not?* My signs did come to you, so you denied them and you were haughty and you were a disbeliever.” (They will be mocked at.)

(But the answer will be,) "Nay! For My revelations came to you, but you rejected them, and were haughty and you were among the unbelievers."

Yes! Verily, there came to you My Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and you denied them, and were proud and were among the disbelievers.

Tafsir jalalayn

`Yes indeed! My signs came to you, the Qur'n -- which is the means to guidance -- but you denied them and were arrogant, you disdained to believe in them, and you were among the disbelievers'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Yes! Verily, there came to you My Ayat and you denied them, and were proud and were among the disbelievers.

meaning, `O you who regret what you did, My Ayat did come to you in the world, and My proof was established against you, but you rejected it and were too arrogant to follow it, and you were among those who disbelieved in it.
