Al-Qur'an Surah Sad Verse 4
Sad [38]: 4 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَعَجِبُوْٓا اَنْ جَاۤءَهُمْ مُّنْذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖوَقَالَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ هٰذَا سٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌۚ (ص : ٣٨)

- وَعَجِبُوٓا۟
- And they wonder
- an
- أَن
- that
- jāahum
- جَآءَهُم
- has come to them
- mundhirun
- مُّنذِرٌ
- a warner
- min'hum
- مِّنْهُمْۖ
- from among themselves
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- l-kāfirūna
- ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ
- the disbelievers
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- "This
- sāḥirun
- سَٰحِرٌ
- (is) a magician
- kadhābun
- كَذَّابٌ
- a liar
Transliteration:
Wa 'ajibooo an jaaa'a hum munzirum minhum wa qaalal kaafiroona haazaa saahirun kazzaab(QS. Ṣād:4)
English / Sahih Translation:
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muhammad (^)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar. (QS. Sad, ayah 4)

They (the pagans) wonder that a warner has come to them from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician, a sheer liar.

English Literal
And they were wondering/astonished/surprised that (a) warner/giver of notice came to them from them, and the disbelievers said: "That (is a) liar/denier/falsifier, (a) magician/sorcerer."

And they marveled that a warner has come to them from among them. The disbelievers said, “This is a lying magician.”
Tafsir jalalayn
And they marvel that a warner has come to them from among themselves, a messenger from among their number, to warn them and to threaten them with [the punishment of] the Fire after resurrection -- and this [warner] is the Prophet (s). And those who disbelieve (the overt noun [al-kfirn] has replaced the [third person] pronominalisation) say, `This is a sorcerer, a liar.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
The Idolators were amazed at the Message, Tawhid and the Qur'an
Allah tells us that the idolators wondered at the sending of the Messenger of Allah as a bringer of glad tidings and a warner.
This is like the Ayah;
أَكَانَ لِلنَّاسِ عَجَبًا أَنْ أَوْحَيْنَأ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَنْ أَنذِرِ النَّاسَ وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِينَ ءامَنُواْ أَنَّ لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ قَالَ الْكَـفِرُونَ إِنَّ هَـذَا لَسَـحِرٌ مُّبِينٌ
Is it a wonder for mankind that We have sent Our revelation to a man from among themselves (saying);
"Warn mankind, and give good news to those who believe that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their good deeds."
(But) the disbelievers say;"This is indeed an evident sorcerer!" (10;2)
And Allah says here;
وَعَجِبُوا أَن جَاءهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ
And they wonder that a warner has come to them from among themselves.
meaning, a human being like themselves.
وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ
