اِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصّٰفِنٰتُ الْجِيَادُۙ ٣١
- idh
- إِذْ
- When
- ʿuriḍa
- عُرِضَ
- were displayed
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِ
- to him
- bil-ʿashiyi
- بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
- in the afternoon
- l-ṣāfinātu
- ٱلصَّٰفِنَٰتُ
- excellent bred steeds
- l-jiyādu
- ٱلْجِيَادُ
- excellent bred steeds
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. (QS. [38] Sad: 31)Tafsir
32
فَقَالَ اِنِّيْٓ اَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّيْۚ حَتّٰى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِۗ ٣٢
- faqāla
- فَقَالَ
- And he said
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- "Indeed I
- aḥbabtu
- أَحْبَبْتُ
- [I] preferred
- ḥubba
- حُبَّ
- (the) love
- l-khayri
- ٱلْخَيْرِ
- (of) the good
- ʿan
- عَن
- for
- dhik'ri
- ذِكْرِ
- (the) remembrance
- rabbī
- رَبِّى
- (of) my Lord"
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- Until
- tawārat
- تَوَارَتْ
- they were hidden
- bil-ḥijābi
- بِٱلْحِجَابِ
- in the veil;
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]." (QS. [38] Sad: 32)Tafsir
33
رُدُّوْهَا عَلَيَّ ۚفَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا ۢبِالسُّوْقِ وَالْاَعْنَاقِ ٣٣
- ruddūhā
- رُدُّوهَا
- "Return them
- ʿalayya
- عَلَىَّۖ
- to me"
- faṭafiqa
- فَطَفِقَ
- Then he began
- masḥan
- مَسْحًۢا
- to pass (his hand)
- bil-sūqi
- بِٱلسُّوقِ
- over the legs
- wal-aʿnāqi
- وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
- and the necks
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks. (QS. [38] Sad: 33)Tafsir
34
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمٰنَ وَاَلْقَيْنَا عَلٰى كُرْسِيِّهٖ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ اَنَابَ ٣٤
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And certainly
- fatannā
- فَتَنَّا
- We tried
- sulaymāna
- سُلَيْمَٰنَ
- Sulaiman
- wa-alqaynā
- وَأَلْقَيْنَا
- and We placed
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- on
- kur'siyyihi
- كُرْسِيِّهِۦ
- his throne
- jasadan
- جَسَدًا
- a body;
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- anāba
- أَنَابَ
- he turned
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned. (QS. [38] Sad: 34)Tafsir
35
قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَهَبْ لِيْ مُلْكًا لَّا يَنْۢبَغِيْ لِاَحَدٍ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِيْۚ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ ٣٥

- قَالَ
- He said
- rabbi
- رَبِّ
- "O my Lord!
- igh'fir
- ٱغْفِرْ
- Forgive
- lī
- لِى
- me
- wahab
- وَهَبْ
- and grant
- lī
- لِى
- me
- mul'kan
- مُلْكًا
- a kingdom
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- yanbaghī
- يَنۢبَغِى
- (will) belong
- li-aḥadin
- لِأَحَدٍ
- to anyone
- min
- مِّنۢ
- after me
- baʿdī
- بَعْدِىٓۖ
- after me
- innaka
- إِنَّكَ
- Indeed, You
- anta
- أَنتَ
- [You]
- l-wahābu
- ٱلْوَهَّابُ
- (are) the Bestower"
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower." (QS. [38] Sad: 35)Tafsir
36
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيْحَ تَجْرِيْ بِاَمْرِهٖ رُخَاۤءً حَيْثُ اَصَابَۙ ٣٦
- fasakharnā
- فَسَخَّرْنَا
- Then We subjected
- lahu
- لَهُ
- to him
- l-rīḥa
- ٱلرِّيحَ
- the wind
- tajrī
- تَجْرِى
- to flow
- bi-amrihi
- بِأَمْرِهِۦ
- by his command
- rukhāan
- رُخَآءً
- gently
- ḥaythu
- حَيْثُ
- wherever
- aṣāba
- أَصَابَ
- he directed
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed, (QS. [38] Sad: 36)Tafsir
37
وَالشَّيٰطِيْنَ كُلَّ بَنَّاۤءٍ وَّغَوَّاصٍۙ ٣٧
- wal-shayāṭīna
- وَٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
- And the devils
- kulla
- كُلَّ
- every
- bannāin
- بَنَّآءٍ
- builder
- waghawwāṣin
- وَغَوَّاصٍ
- and diver
And [also] the devils [of jinn] – every builder and diver. (QS. [38] Sad: 37)Tafsir
38
وَّاٰخَرِيْنَ مُقَرَّنِيْنَ فِى الْاَصْفَادِ ٣٨
- waākharīna
- وَءَاخَرِينَ
- And others
- muqarranīna
- مُقَرَّنِينَ
- bound
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-aṣfādi
- ٱلْأَصْفَادِ
- chains
And others bound together in irons. (QS. [38] Sad: 38)Tafsir
39
هٰذَا عَطَاۤؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ اَوْ اَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ٣٩
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- "This
- ʿaṭāunā
- عَطَآؤُنَا
- (is) Our gift
- fa-um'nun
- فَٱمْنُنْ
- so grant
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- amsik
- أَمْسِكْ
- withhold
- bighayri
- بِغَيْرِ
- without
- ḥisābin
- حِسَابٍ
- account"
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account." (QS. [38] Sad: 39)Tafsir
40
وَاِنَّ لَهٗ عِنْدَنَا لَزُلْفٰى وَحُسْنَ مَاٰبٍ ࣖ ٤٠
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- And indeed
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- for him
- ʿindanā
- عِندَنَا
- with Us
- lazul'fā
- لَزُلْفَىٰ
- surely is a near access
- waḥus'na
- وَحُسْنَ
- and a good
- maābin
- مَـَٔابٍ
- place of return
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. (QS. [38] Sad: 40)Tafsir
