Al-Qur'an Surah As-Saffat Verse 63
As-Saffat [37]: 63 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اِنَّا جَعَلْنٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظّٰلِمِيْنَ (الصافات : ٣٧)
- innā
- إِنَّا
- Indeed We
- jaʿalnāhā
- جَعَلْنَٰهَا
- [We] have made it
- fit'natan
- فِتْنَةً
- a trial
- lilẓẓālimīna
- لِّلظَّٰلِمِينَ
- for the wrongdoers
Transliteration:
Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen(QS. aṣ-Ṣāffāt:63)
English / Sahih Translation:
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. (QS. As-Saffat, ayah 63)

We have indeed made it, for that reason [sc. its being a tree in the Fire], a trial for the wrongdoers?, namely, [for] the disbelievers of Mecca, for they said, `Fire consumes trees so how can it make them grow forth?'
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Truly, We have made it (as) a trial for the wrongdoers.
Qatadah said,
"The tree of Zaqqum is mentioned as a test for those who are misguided. They said,
`Your companion tells you that in the Fire there is a tree, but fire consumes trees.'
Then Allah revealed the words;
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ
