Al-Qur'an Surah As-Saffat Verse 53

As-Saffat [37]: 53 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَدِيْنُوْنَ (الصافات : ٣٧)

a-idhā
أَءِذَا
Is (it) when
mit'nā
مِتْنَا
we have died
wakunnā
وَكُنَّا
and become
turāban
تُرَابًا
dust
waʿiẓāman
وَعِظَٰمًا
and bones
a-innā
أَءِنَّا
will we
lamadīnūna
لَمَدِينُونَ
surely be brought to Judgment?"

Transliteration:

'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamadeenoon (QS. aṣ-Ṣāffāt:53)

English / Sahih Translation:

That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" (QS. As-Saffat, ayah 53)

[that] when we are dead and have become dust and bones, we shall actually be called to account?" ', that we shall be requited and reckoned with -- he rejects [the truth of] this as well (as regards all three instances of the hamzas [sc. a-innaka, a-idh, and a-inn] what has been mentioned above [applies]).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be indebted (Madinun).

Mujahid and As-Suddi said,

"Brought to account."

Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi said,

"Rewarded or punished according to our deeds."

Both views are correct.
