Al-Qur'an Surah As-Saffat Verse 145
As-Saffat [37]: 145 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
فَنَبَذْنٰهُ بِالْعَرَاۤءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيْمٌ ۚ (الصافات : ٣٧)
- fanabadhnāhu
- فَنَبَذْنَٰهُ
- But We cast him
- bil-ʿarāi
- بِٱلْعَرَآءِ
- onto the open shore
- wahuwa
- وَهُوَ
- while he
- saqīmun
- سَقِيمٌ
- (was) ill
Transliteration:
Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem(QS. aṣ-Ṣāffāt:145)
English / Sahih Translation:
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. (QS. As-Saffat, ayah 145)

Tafsir jalalayn
Then We cast him, We flung him out of the belly of the whale, onto the barren land, onto the face of the earth, that is, onto the shore on that same day -- or three, or seven, or twenty, or forty days later -- and he was sick, ailing like a [newly-born] featherless chick.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
فَنَبَذْنَاهُ
But We cast him forth,
meaning, `We threw him out,'
بِالْعَرَاء
on the naked shore,
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and others said that this refers to land in which there is no vegetation and no buildings.
وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
while he was sick,
means, when he was weak of body.
وَأَنبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ
