Al-Qur'an Surah Ya-Sin Verse 74

Ya-Sin [36]: 74 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاتَّخَذُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ اٰلِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنْصَرُوْنَ ۗ (يس : ٣٦)

wa-ittakhadhū
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟
But they have taken

laʿallahum
لَّعَلَّهُمْ
that they may
yunṣarūna
يُنصَرُونَ
be helped

Transliteration:

Wattakhazoo min doonil laahi aalihatal la'allahum yunsaroon (QS. Yāʾ Sīn:74)

English / Sahih Translation:

But they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped. (QS. Ya-Sin, ayah 74)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They have adopted gods other than Allah, so that they may be helped (by them).

Still they have taken other gods besides Allah, hoping to be helped ˹by them˺.

English Literal

And they took from other than God, gods, maybe/perhaps they be given victory/aid.

Tafsir jalalayn

And they have taken besides God, in other words, other than Him, [other] gods, idols, which they worship, that perhaps they might be helped, protected against God's chastisement by their gods' interceding for them, as they are wont to claim.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

The gods of the Idolators are not able to help Them

Allah tells;

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ الِهَةً لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ



And they have taken besides Allah, gods, hoping that they might be helped.

Allah denounces the idolators for taking the idols as gods alongside Allah, hoping that those gods will help them and provide for them and bring them closer to Allah.

Allah says
