Al-Qur'an Surah Ya-Sin Verse 47

Ya-Sin [36]: 47 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمْ اَنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ ۙقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْٓا اَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَّوْ يَشَاۤءُ اللّٰهُ اَطْعَمَهٗٓ ۖاِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ (يس : ٣٦)

وَإِذَا

أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ
He would have fed him?"

ضَلَٰلٍ
an error

مُّبِينٍ

Transliteration:

Wa izaa qeela lahum anfiqoo mimmaa razaqakumul laahu qaalal lazeena kafaroo lillazeena aamanooo anut'imu mal-law yashaaa'ul laahu at'amahooo in antum illaa fee dalaalim mubeen (QS. Yāʾ Sīn:47)

English / Sahih Translation:

And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error." (QS. Ya-Sin, ayah 47)

And when it is said to them, “Spend (to the needy) from the provision Allah has given to you”, the disbelievers say to the believers, “Shall we feed those whom Allah could have fed, if Allah so willed? You are but in open error.”

And when it is said to them, “Donate from what Allah has provided for you,” the disbelievers say to the believers, “Why should we feed those whom Allah could have fed if He wanted to? You are clearly astray!”

And when it is said to them, “Spend of what Allah has provided you with”, the disbelievers say to the believers, “Should we feed those whom Allah could feed if He willed? You are clearly misguided!”

and when they are told, ‘Give to others out of what God has provided for you,’ the disbelievers say to the believers, ‘Why should we feed those that God could feed if He wanted? You must be deeply misguided.’

And when it is said Unto them: expend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say Unto those who believe: shall we feed those whom God Himself would have fed, if He listed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest.

And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe; "Shall we then feed those whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?- Ye are in nothing but manifest error."

And when it is said to them: “Spend (in the Way of Allah) out of the sustenance that Allah has provided you,” the unbelievers say to the believers: “Shall we feed him whom, Allah would have fed, had He so wished?” Say: “You are in evident error.”

When they are told: "Spend of what God has given you," the unbelievers say to those who believe: "Why should we feed those whom God should have fed if He pleased?" You are only in palpable error.

And when it is said to them, “Spend in Allah’s cause, from what Allah has provided you”, the disbelievers say regarding the believers, “Shall we feed these, whom if Allah willed, would have fed? You are not but in open error!”

When they are told, ‘Spend out of what Allah has provided you,’ the faithless say to the faithful, ‘Shall we feed [someone] whom Allah would feed, if He wished? You are only in manifest error.’

And when they are told: "Spend (for the needy) out of what God has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Shall we then feed those whom God would feed if He willed? You are but in obvious error."

And when it is said to them, `Spend out of that which Allâh has provided for you,´ those who disbelieve say to those who believe, `Shall we feed those whom, if Allâh so will, He could feed? You are only steeped in obvious error.´

English Literal

And if (it) was said to them: "Spend from what God provided for you." Those who disbelieved said to those who believed: "Do we feed whom if God wanted/willed He fed him? That truly you are in except clear/evident misguidance."

And when it is said to them, “Spend in Allah’s cause, from what Allah has provided you”, the disbelievers say regarding the believers, “Shall we feed these, whom if Allah willed, would have fed? You are not but in open error!”

And when it is said to them, "Spend of that which Allah has given you", those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error."

And when it is said to them: 'Spend of that which Allah has given you' the unbelievers say to the believers: 'Are we to feed those whom Allah can feed if He chooses? Surely, you are only in clear error'

And when it is said to them: "Spend of that with which Allah has provided you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He would have fed You are only in a plain error."

and when they are told, "Give to others out of what God has provided for you," those who are bent on denying the truth say to the believers, "Why should we feed those whom God could feed if He wanted? You are clearly in error!"

And when it is said to them, “Spend of what God has provided for you,” those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Shall we feed someone whom God could feed, if He so willed? You must be deeply misguided.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And when it is said, that is, [when] the poor ones from among the Companions [of the Prophet] say, to them; `Expend, on us, of what God has provided you', of wealth, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, in mockery of them; `Are we to feed those whom, if God willed, He would feed?, as you are wont to believe? You, in saying this to us, together with this believe of yours, are only in manifest error!' -- as an explicit declaration of their disbelief this [statement] is very effective [in the way that it has been expressed].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمْ اللَّهُ

And when it is said to them;"Spend of that with which Allah has provided you,"

means, when they are told to spend of that which Allah has provided to them on the poor and needy among the Muslims,

قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِينَ امَنُوا

those who disbelieve say to those who believe,

means, about the believers who are poor,

i.e., they say to those believers who tell them to spend on the needy,

أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَاء اللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُ

Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He (Himself) would have fed,

meaning, `those whom you are telling us to spend on, if Allah had wanted to, He would have made them independent and fed them from His provision, so we are in accordance with the will of Allah with regard to them.

إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلاَّ فِي ضَلَلٍ مُّبِينٍ



You are only in a plain error.

means, `by telling us to do that.
